Grid Autosports - Mac

Initial release date: 24 June 2014
Developer: Codemasters
Genre: Racing
Platforms: PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows, Linux, Macintosh operating systems

Synopsis

Grid Autosport is a racing video game developed and published by Codemasters for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Linux and OS X. It is the ninth game in the TOCA series. It aims to move the series back towards "more authentic racing games" following the release of Grid 2, which Codemasters felt was not as well-received by the company's core fan base as it was hoped for. The developers consequently introduced major modifications to the handling model and built a lean, race-first oriented design for this title.

Many critics who praised the game cited how Codemasters seemed to have "gone back to its roots", with aspects from its early games in the series.

Game-play

When I had my very first race it was horrible I couldn't control the car at all, kept crashing every five seconds, until I realized the difficulty was set to the hardest. So as I was new to the game getting used to the controls etc, I set the difficulty to very easy to start with, and also set my damage level to "visual only" which basically means my car will not get damage and affect my driving, since I changed the settings I've been enjoying the game a lot more and actually winning. One of my favourite things I enjoyed was the fact you get the chance to drive different types of racing cars like F1, Stock Car Brasil, Rally cars, V8 Supercars etc, I would say racing with the F1 was the most enjoyable for me, but you will have to complete a few racing beforehand to unlock the level.
The tracks are nice different scenery and different climate's, the track laps are not too long.
Now there is an online feature but I don't use it at all as I've tried to connect with others to race with but I never get any luck, as I said I play the game on a Mac so it's not that popular I guess, so I just play the campaign mode.

Plot

In Grid Autosport's you will start off as a rookie like in most racing games, and build up the career over time, the races are divided up into seasons where you will have to complete that season to progress, each season will have a different car type etc F1 or Rally. There are five main categories Touring, Endurance, Open Wheel, Tuner, and Street, and also the Grid Grand Slam which you can unlock as you progress through your career. There are two types of objectives you will have to complete "season objectives, and sponsor objectives", the more objectives you complete the more XP you will earn. Before you start a race you will have to do a trial run and you have to best the time of the other racers, and this will be for your poll position for the race.
You can see below you can level up of each of the 5 categories, and I assume once you get all five categories passed that red line you will unlock the Grid Grand Slam.

Graphics
The graphics and sound are not too bad at all, there's sometimes a little bit of lag but not much at all. The colors are amazing, the race tracks and city's and climate are very realistic, I don't have many games on my Mac but this game is certainly the best for graphics.

Controls
The controls are fine to use because in the settings you can change them to how you like for me I like to use my keyboard, W - Gas, A - Left, D - Right, Reverse, I think that's the most comfortable set up for me anyway.

System minimum requirements
Minimum:
OS: Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8.
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.4Ghz or AMD Athlon X2 5400+

Always been a fan of the Grid games. This one too. Not the best game ever but still a lot of fun to play.
Thanks for such an in-depth review Mikey.

GRID was always fun to play, I remember the first time was on my uncles crazy gaming rig. I gotta agree with you that the graphics are absolutely insane, even for a 2014 launch. Max settings on PC = everything looks so much more vibrant and realistic. Awesome review mikey

Unpopular opinion but I wasn't a big fan of Grid, seems too cheesy for me. Maybe I'm boring? I just prefer more realistic racers. Great review Mikey honestly dude.

Everything in this review is sloppy and seems like you just used a bigger font size to show more potential for your review. The game was released in 2014 where graphics were rising in the industries and this game was a demand for it and all you could do is describe it in 2 sentences? Your Gameplay only says stuff that happened to you in the game like you having hard difficulty on, you enjoying the F1, and you not being able to try the online portion of the game. How about describe those features, give us an explanation of the overall car feel, you are so short with your explanations its so senseless. " The tracks are nice different scenery and different climate's, the track laps are not too long. " Really..... A racing game with TONS of tracks and all you say is that.

I'm glad you put system requirements and bigger font because, without it, this review would be shorter than the Titanics trip to New York.

And - "as I said I play the game on a Mac" - who plays games on a mac?

I played the game in the previous time and didn't like it that much, wonder how much they improved it? I'm thinking of giving it a shot
