So you decided to throw a tune on it.
I was wondering if I should do the same on my 6.0 but I am afraid of breaking something on the motor without it being studded or bulletproofed. What are your thoughts on that? |

I've done a TON of research on how 6.0's break and tuning them and the biggest issue when it comes to a 6.0 is heat. People do exactly what I did and they get this tuner and think that the smoke is cool, so now we're going to go out and make an instagram video of us doing a burn out but we're not seeing our oil temp getting past 230* and all of the sudden the engine blows.
I've came to the conclusion that we're already dancing with the devil in that we bought a 6.0 so a tuner is just making it a more aggressive dance lol. To me it all comes down to what your goals are. If you're trying to make it a race truck or you like to show off for everyone then that's how you break your truck. If you are responsible and just use the extra power for passing people or even pure enjoyment on a back road every now and again then you should be fine. I would say before you get a tuner you should get monitors for the oil temp, coolant temp, and trans temp. Exhaust temp is high recommended too, I just haven't gotten that far yet. What it comes down to is the biggest issue is heat, these tunes create power so we step on the skinny pedal more which creates more heat which makes the engine blow. Monitor the temps and you should be alright. If you do all the "must do" mods to keep your truck solid like replacing the STC fitting, dummy plugs, stand pipes, blue spring mod and change out the coolant for an ELC 1 rated coolant then you'll be good to go if you respect the truck. I only have the blue spring mod done to my truck but I don't beat the absolute piss out of it so I'm living on a prayer that everything works out lol. |

Battery voltage: 12.1 prior to glow plugs shutting off, 13.0-14.3V while truck is running
Engine coolant temp (ECT): Normal 190-200*, Heavy Service 200-215*, Stop at 230* Engine oil temp (EOT): Normal 5-15* above ECT when at operating temperature FICM voltage: 47.5-48.5V (while opporating should not go below 45V) ICP: Will not start under 500 PSI, normally idles around 650 PSI, peaks with full load 4050 PSI Transmission fluid temp (TFT): Normal 150-190*, Towing 195-210*, Stop at 220* Expandable system parameters (truck won't monitor these but you can buy aftermarket products like Edge EAS system. Exhaust gas temp (EGT): Normal 650-850*, Heavy Service 800-1050*, Alarm Set 1250*, wait until 400* to shut off Fuel pressure: Normal 50-65psi, Max 75psi - O-Ring starts leaking, Min 45psi - Injectors aren't being properly lubricated Oil pressure: Normal 12psi @ 700rpm, 24psi @ 1200rpm, 45psi @ 1800 My CTS 2 has 2 screens, on the main one I have 9 gauges, and on the 2nd one I have 12. On the first one, on the left top to bottom I monitor what gear I'm in, FICM voltage, and battery voltage. In the middle top to bottom I monitor HP, MPH, torque. On the right from top to bottom I monitor ECT, EOT, and TFT. On the secondary screen I just have random gauges but the ECT EOT and TFT are still on the right side because those are the top 3 I worry about. I'll upload pics later this afternoon of how I have it configured. |

Not too bad, truck weighs 8,240 lbs with me in it, and this is with theoretically 445 HP and 818 torque at the crank (using the advertised numbers on the engine and the power the SCT says it should add). |
