it is based on where you live both terms are correct but it depends what version of English you use

Well from my understanding, because it only has one 'T' it should be pronounced 'day-ta'

I was told in a math class once that data pronounced day-tuh is for a single point.

Data like dah as in like DaDa what babies would call a dad - that data is for multiple data points.
