So I have a new job being a house keeper at a old folks home and it pays great $$$. My boss he's an older gentleman about 69 I guess he thinks of me like a granddaughter. He doesn't have any granddaughter's I get that.. but how would you feel or go about this ?

That's good. It means he likes you and when push comes to shove (political power plays etc.), will look after you.

At a surface level it seems normal - once upon a time my manager thought of me as a son and it took me far.

Don't read into it too much. It's a bit different when you're older and dealing with another generation.

Kind of an odd situation, I'd do my best to ensure it's kept professional as well as clearly define borders and boundaries.

He's 69, he means absolutely no harm I'm sure. It just means he thinks you're a great employee, and because you're on the younger side ( I'm assuming ), he's just going to look out for you, and not let anyone treat you wrongly, and treat you like family. This isnt uncommon for older employers, and younger employees.

I'm 24, and most of my coworkers, and supervisors/bosses, male and female, all of which are older then me by atleast 20 years, tell me I'm like a son to them, and they wouldn't let anybody give me shit.

People will only tell you it's weird because you're a girl, he's a guy.

I mean what's the rant here? It's a complementary, and nothing further. People today don't realize what a context is given, to them it starts to be a matter of thoughts like... Why? How.. Or is that rude?... the ol' guy here is a gentlemen and isn't threatening or weird or of any sort. He's just a ol guy that wished he had a granddaughter, maybe he said that for a reason.. Maybe he sees you as if you were his granddaughter he'd wish for.

Ask for a pay rise. If he doesn't have a grand daughter he will do anything for you haha
