Alright, so I live in a decent apartment complex in Southern Florida, and the complex has a deal with spectrum where basically we pay a flat rate included in our rent and we get 80/80 internet and tv. Everyone gets their own router and network. However, as of today I found a note on my door telling me that the complex is switching over to "community-wide WiFi" and will be installing a panel in our apartment which I guess will now be our modem/router. They claim speeds will be faster, however now I assume everyone will be on the same network and just using different channels depending on our logins. Does anyone have any thoughts on how badly this will impact performance? They didn't provide any details on the panel, I don't even know if I'll have any admin rights for port-forwarding rules anymore or anything. I don't see many positives to this switch aside from the complex saving money, so I'd love to hear some opinions about this, I'm hoping it isn't going to be as bad as I'm foreseeing. |

I actually work for Spectrum and if installed correctly, it will work quite well, as it's a pretty new system for cable companies, there will be hiccups. However we just installed one here in Syracuse Ny and it works pretty decent. The one that got installed here has its own router/ modem per floor and somehow(something above my pay grade) it's set so no one person can just suck up all the bandwidth, so if the speeds are 80/80, that's what you should see consistently as a individual. |

That's a relief to hear! I'm really hoping it's the case. It looks like in our case every apartment is going to have a hotspot or router of some sort in each apartment to try and provide coverage across the entire complex. I really hope it is in fact a super easy change and doesn't change my current experience all that much. Any idea about port forwarding on these public modem/routers? |

Not really sure on that aspect of it, generally when each unit has their own modem/router like that, all you get is WiFi info only. Even us field techs arnt even suppossed to touch it as they are like remotely supported by the manufacturer of the panel that way if something is wrong, they can access it and change settings. (At least where I live they are, may be different for you, who knows) |

That's a real shame, personally I'd tell the complex management you don't agree and want to break lease |
