Hello I live in a city near Atlanta that for some reason only has one shitty ISP that offers a top speed of 15MBs down and 1.2MBs up, but i get really good ping and hardly ever lag in games. It takes hours and hours if not all night to download games and i am 100% unable to watch 4k videos. 1440p videos are extremely hard to watch with a buffer every minute or two but compared to 4k its perfection. I was wondering if switching to a much better download and upload speed satellite internet company would be better for me ( I play comp games like LoL) would switching to satellite internet kill my ping? and would a powerline wifi booster help if i get satellite? Also I am unaware I run wired everything even my tv. How does satellite internet get into the house? Can i still wire it directly to my comp even though its coming through satellite or is it only wifi with no actual box?
TDLR: Is the high latency ping that comes with satellite internet worth upgrading to a provider that will allow me to get above 10mbps down and 1mbps up |

Satellite internet is almost impossible to game on as far as i know.
It will have a modem, you'll still be able to hard wire into it. But satellite internet is usually used in rural areas, you'll be able to stream but probably not above 720p. Stick with your current provider for now until you have 5G or fiber avaliable in your area. If you have a good phone plan ask them about a hotspot that you can use in the house while your downloading games so you can stream off the hotspot and you'll have more direct bandwidth for downloads. Also make your ISP aware youre unhappy with their service and see if theres anything theyre willing to do to boost your speeds. 3ven bad companys have good customer service every so often. |

Well I guess my only option is to sell the house and move then but before that I will attempt to use the satellite internet because there is no way we are getting another ISP let alone fiber in this area for at least another 10 years. And IDK if i said this or if it was just implied but I have the highest available package and have had it for 10 years and they will never increase the speed. They have a monopoly where nobody else can enter the area there has been an on going lawsuit for idk how many years this will never be solved. |

Dont worry, fiber is spreading a lot faster than you think. Definetly give a mobile hotspot consideration if you have a data plan, you can usually get them through your cell provider, and you'll at least be able to maybe use that to give your connection a little "room to breathe" so to speak. Hope it gets better for ya man. |

Currently have satellite internet, living in rural Ireland, it's not as bad as you'd expect, can only get at max 20 down because of my specific location, but never have had any issues with ping or download speed in years since changing.
