Parent publisher Take-Two Interactive announced today that entire shoot-and-loot series has now hit 43 million copies shipped across all titles.

Take-Two, which owns Borderlands publisher 2K Games, added that Borderlands 2 alone has shipped around 20 million copies. Management added that the game is still played by more than 1 million monthly unique users, which is impressive given the game released all the way back in 2012.

With Borderlands 2 shipping 20 million copies by itself, that leaves a further 23 million across the other the other releases. The figure was announced as covering the entire Borderlands franchise, so this presumably includes Borderlands 1 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, though it's not clear if it also counts sales of spinoffs like Telltale's Tales from the Borderlands or the iOS game Borderlands Legends. The latest Borderlands release is the Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition, which launched in April.

Borderlands 3 comes out in September for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Can't wait to hear more about the game at E3. I to myself from time to time still play Borderlands the first game. Sometimes going back and playing them again are fun that way you can relive the experience to wait for the next one to come out. I'm sure BL 3 will also sell a lot of copies, a lot of gamers are looking forward to play it.

With how amazing borderlands 2 is, this isn't too surprising especially with a new one coming soon, but it's impressive that they made a game this great

Not surprising the game is great and has so much to do, including raid bosses and the people who want to perfect there characters.

Although I think BL3 will take this down several notches haha, we've been waiting since 2012 or 2014 If you wanna include 2K Australias presequel.

Yep I feel you. I hate it when you have to wait 5 plus years for another game to come out even if it was really amazing then before you know what 10 years later the sequel finally comes out lol.

This is crazy but not too surprising. Borderlands is just a great franchise overall. Can't wait for their new game to release because I'll be all over that as well!

It doesn't surprise me, because the game is really good imo. The DLC is great. I remember back in 2012 I was in best buy with my parents debating if I wanted to get Borderlands 2 and since my friends had it I was like it seems cool why not. I never played the first Borderlands which I really should, since I LOVE BL2 (Lmk if BL1 is good). I've put countless hours into that game and was so happy when I saw the Handsome Jack collection and got the remastered version of it. Now the wait for Borderlands 3...I'm so excited!
