from a gtx 970 gpu is it possible, atm only the monitor via display port to display port actually shows on the monitor, if you put in hdmi cable for example nothing happens on the display

I'm not sure if 970 is capable but I do know that HDMI doesn't go past 60hz so you'd need 3 display port connections to your GPU to get 3 240hz

is there no way of displaying only one at 240hz and then the other two at a lower hz from the other connections from the 970 so you still have a visible display?

It should be possible. I have a DP going to my monitor and an HDMI going to my tv and I can use both at the same time. For your no video problem try changing one of the monitors to 60hz and see if you get a signal that way.

Also, check in your Nvidia control panel in the multiple displays tab to try and configure everything and see if it's even being recognized.

HDMI 2.0 supports 240hz. So if the monitors and GPU support it, its possible.

Whats the make and model of the AlienWare monitors and the GPU? Also, why do you have three 240hz monitors?

Man this is so off topic. But how did you come across three 240 hz Alienware monitors but still be rocking just a 970...? I had a 970 and it's a great card don't get me wrong but seems kinda off haha.

Reference GTX 970 has 1 x DVI, 1 x HDMI 2.0, and 3 x DP 1.2 outputs. However a lot of the aftermarket 970s had 2 x DVI, 1x HDMI 2.0, 1 x DP 1.2 and maybe an extra HDMI or DP output. DVI will support a max of 1080p @ 144Hz. DP 1.2 will support 1080p @ 240Hz, and the HDMI 2.0 output will work for 1080p @ 240Hz so long as your monitor has an HDMI 2.0 input.

You can set the resolution and refresh rate of each monitor individually regardless of which display cable you use, so yes you could set 2 of them to 60Hz and 1 to 240Hz. A bit pointless though really IMO.

As for no display with the HDMI cable, did you change the signal on the monitor to HDMI? Can you try something else plugged in to the monitor with HDMI, like a console and see if you get a display with that. Could be a faulty HDMI cable, or HDMI connection on either the GPU or monitor.
