Outbid. Currently at £490 now.

Can't see the 3950x on sale anywhere yet. Perhaps thats why there aren't any new listings for used 3900x? In any case, I doubt I'll go for the 3900x now unless I get it at a really good price. It appears that I may have to get a new car Long story short - old Honda Jazz, Eastern Europeans, Catalytic converter.

Ordering the following now:

ocuk:
Team Group Vulcan TUF Gaming Alliance 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-25600C16 3200MHz Dual Channel Kit - Blac £59.99*
Super Flower Leadex III 550W 80 PLUS Gold Modular Power Supply - Black £59.99*
Total order value £130.48

ccl:
Intel 660p 1TB M.2-2280 NVMe PCIe SSD £89.98
Zotac GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER 6GB Graphics Card £214.83
Order Total £304.81

Scan:
NZXT Black H510 Mid Tower Windowed PC Gaming Case £60.47

Though only a £20 saving, I reckon the 3600 ram is wasted on me so went with 3200.

Yup, all looks good to me.

3950x just released today. Should be available to purchase now on most sites, but I imagine it'll be sold out in most places already. Also, it's a £750 CPU for now lol, so it's really just for the early adopters who don't mind over-paying until it starts to come down in price.
The 3900x is still pretty new, so there won't be many on the used market yet and any that are won't be much of a saving off new. That's why I'd honestly just stick with an R7 for now, 8C/16T is plenty and then as I said, when the R9 3900x/3950x plummet in price within the next 2 years, you can maybe consider picking one up since it's such an easy upgrade with either of the AM4 motherboards you're deciding between.

I saw on OcUK that estimated delivery is January 2020 lol. Found it weird that none of the posters who were going on about getting the 3950 have said anything yet about being able to get it or whatever. May have something to do with senior forum members buying and selling amongst themselves, but I'm not sure...

Did you see the Sabrent 1TB shot up to £150 from £105! I was thinking of getting one of those, but not anymore.

EDIT - came down again. Was it originally £110?

That used 3900x went for £500. Nvm, I don't want to pay that much right now.

Guess I should wait till Friday to see if the TUF goes lower than £189. No hopes for the 3700x or even 2700x getting cheaper. Perhaps 1TB nvme drives will come down? The 660p is still a steal but few peeps are telling me to get an nvme with tlc nand instead of qlc. Not sure if that'll make any difference for me... could I get your thoughts on this?

Well I guess anything from here on is purely down to which route I choose. I'm leaning more and more towards the 2700x for its amazing value, but for £120 extra I get the 3700x... thats how much I used to spend on smoking every month up until 4 years ago. Now I vape instead, and have a higher salary so £120 shouldn't be too bad (paying no notice to the £850 spent already!!).

Don't mind me. Just thinking aloud

Right, TUF available for £185, and 3700x down to £282. Extra £117 for the 3700x over the 2700x... couldn't resist in the end

Did not expect to find a site going lower on the 3700x. I might just order this right now... EDIT - ordered. Don't wanna push my luck on this one, specially since it was just one site... RE-EDIT - page didn't refresh or do anything when I confirmed the order so tried again... yep - double order <double facepalm>

Since a few sites have dropped the TUF price, wondering if its even worth waiting to see if it drops a bit more. 'Wasting' time refreshing seach results and doing new searches over the next day or two just to save a few pounds... I might just order it tomorrow. If price is the same, then my total will have come to about £963. Lol, I genuinely don't know if thats a good or bad number.

I managed to repair my car for £350 which I did not expect - massive saving over the time and cost of a new car SO... do I get that second m2? another 660p or something else?

Yeah, the 3700x was £280 a week or 2 ago. It might come down another tenner or so on Black Friday since it's kind of a hot seller, but I'm not too sure. Black Friday deals so far are looking pretty meh, hopefully saving the best for the weekend.

I'm really hoping the X570 TUF gets a decent deal on Black Friday, and honestly it would make sense. I'd hold off on buying that until the weekend at least

TLC drives are going to be more expensive, the 660p is already significantly better than SATA SSD's. If you're happy spending more, then yeah you could go with a better/faster NVMe drive than the 660p. The Sabrent Rocket has been around £105/110 for a while, occasionally jumping up for a little bit. It's a decent alternative to the 660p for 105/110, but I'd probably stick with the 660p for 20 quid less tbh.

Maybe get a 1TB Sabrent Rocket and a 1.02TB Intel 660p if you want, and can justify it? You might want to look at adding an HDD for mass storage before a 2nd SSD though, depends how much storage capacity you'll use and how quickly.

Yeah I kinda took a gamble there... I thought it might even go back up since it was just the one site.

Understood. Appears some of my parts will reach me 2nd Dec earliest, so I can wait.

I have an external 2TB HDD, about 5 years old. Planning to keep all my editing input and output files on the first m2 in case I dont get a second which is where I'd prefer to keep them. That is the correct setup right at least for two drives? The HDD I'll use for storing movies for watching, not editing. That should be fine right?

If prices are nice on the weekend, I'll probably go for the second drive.

Now, time to compile my list of build/pre install/post install questions

I would keep any media you're currently working on, on an SSD. Anything that's finished or not being worked on should be on an HDD really since you won't be benefitting at all from the increased speeds of the SSD. There isn't really a correct storage "setup", just get whatever suits you. You can always add more storage in the future if necessary- the H500 has space for 3 x 3.5" HDD's and/or 3/6 2.5" SSD's, plus the 2 x m.2 skots on the X570 TUF.

That 1TB 660p/Rocket and 2TB external HDD will definitely do you for now. Then either now(if you want) or in the future, you can look at adding another 1TB SSD and/or 2-4TB HDD to the system.

Yeah happy to help when you have some specific questions for anything. I'm off work until the weekend after tomorrow afternoon so I'll be on here pretty regularly over the next few days and then probably won't be on at all Sat/Sun.

As always, thank you very much!!

Question regarding the BIOS update: Checked ASUS website and found this latest update:

Version 1404
bla, bla
* You will not be able to downgrade your BIOS after updating to this BIOS version

I'm guessing this is fine and I should go ahead and update? Had a quick look through the BIOS manual and it sounds like I can update the BIOS online. Failing that, I can copy the update to my external HDD and do it that way right?

There seems to be so many things you can tweak, though I'm guessing I don't need to play around with anything other than the DRAM xmp thing? Just wondering if there are some 'basic' tweaks I that I should do which could improve my user experience?

I'd wait until you get the motherboard, and then actually check what BIOS revision it is running. You might not have to update the BIOS at all. You can update the X570 TUF's BIOS via the internet, but I've never personally updated BIOS that way so not 100% sure how it works. I imagine it's fairly simple, and just grabs the latest BIOS revision for your specific mobo from Asus' website.

Regardless, if you do update BIOS, maybe try internet first. I would usually use an 8-16GB USB that I have spare, and put the BIOS update on the USB with nothing else whatsoever on there.

Yeah, just enable XMP/DOCP really. Overclocking is pretty much pointless with 3rd gen Ryzen since AMD have pretty much perfected XFR it seems. You're gonna get better performance with XFR, but overclocking can be fun, so if you're in to that, you COULD manually overclock CPU, and even RAM if you really want.

Oh, and would you look at that;
amazon.co.uk/Sabrent-Rocket-Inter...amp;sr=8-1
only a few hours left on this deal, might pick one up myself at that price tbh.

Definitely not planning to overclock. I was just skimming through the manual and there just seems to be so much to this motherboard...
21 wrote Oh, and would you look at that
My head spinning now Just when I decided not to get a second m2... ok at the very least I'll wait till I get back from work which should be another 2 hours. If its still at that price... dagnammit!!!! EDIT - doh just saw - >6h left.
