So I think I've decided on the parts now. Need this to be good for 4K video editing in Premiere Pro.

CPU - AMD Ryzen 5 3600
GPU - MSI GTX 1070 GAMING X 8G
MB - MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX
RAM - Crucial Ballistix 3200MHz DDR4
PSU - Corsair CX500
SSD - Sandisk 1TB SSD and Samsung 256GB SSD
Case - Fractal Design Arc Midi R2

Do I need a fan for the 3600 or will it come with one? I might overclock but idk yet.

Input from a newbie here. Not sure if you've seen my thread, but I'm also building a video editor. I don't think I'll be doing much 4k editing, but based on feedback that I got, I reckon Mr 21 might recommend better options for the same price ranges.

You're getting an nvme SSD right? Since the prices are almost identical, there's no reason to go with a SATA SSD. I went with two nvme drives - had to choose a motherboard that had two m2 ports. Was going to just get one and perhaps the second one some time later, but impatience combined with Black Friday deals has resulted in me ending up with two. I'm not complaining.

I'm sure you can find a better case and PSU. Everyone loves the 3600, but the extra cores on the (slightly cheaper) 2700x might give better performance in Premiere. I gave in and got the 3700x for £117 extra over the 2700x.

Thanks for the reply, I already have the 2 SSDs from my current rig, same with the case and PSU. I just don't think any of them are worth upgrading as I already have them. As for the CPU, I haven't ordered that yet. If the 2700X will be better, then I might get that. idk

If you over clock then I would replace the stock fan if I was you coolers are cheap enough on Amazon it's best to just do it at the start of the build than to wait until down the road.

If anything I'd consider a HDD in a split second especially working with 4k footage, those files can be massive after just 10 minutes. I'd spring for anything 3TB and up.

I would also recommend looking at the 5700 XT or 2070 Super for better playback ability, though the 1070 isn't a bad standing point by any means. With that in mind for that case you might want to look around and make sure you got a screwdriver lying around, I have some doubt you'll be getting a 1070 to fit in perfectly. Likely have to remove one of the drive caddies. Otherwise should be fine, though I'd look at the 3700X over the 3600.

Thanks for the reply, I already have the 1070 from my previous build and it fits in the case fine after I removed one of the HDD caddies. I've heard Premiere pro is mostly CPU intensive, the only time it's the other way around is on some plugins. As for the drive space, I had a 2TB mechanical drive but it failed. That's when I switched to the 1TB SSD, but I don't think I need any more space as not all of my footage is 4K, just from my phantom 4 pro.

As for the CPU, I've now been suggested the 2700X, 3600 and 3700X. Would the 3700X be worth the extra?

That mostly depends on your total budget and how often you will be using/editing your 4k footage.
In general terms, no it won't be worth the extra money; the performance difference isn't really worth the massive jump in price.

Assuming you also plan to game with this rig, I would advise the 3600 over the 2700X because the single-core performance is significant more often than the multi-core performance.

Exactly as I thought for the 3600 over the 2700X. I don't edit 4K as a job, just purely for my drone hobby. Also, occasionally some camera gimbal 4k work. As long as it can allow me to preview the footage in real time and not be choppy like my current CPU, that's all I need.
