I currently am using a EVGA GTX 970 that's like 5 years old, i saw EVGA come out with new RTX 2060 KO series, but don't know much on it and how much better it is than my 970.

I'm hoping to get some nice gfx card suggestions in the $300 range.

BTW I've only dealt with nivida gfx cards, so if you mention like 5600 and etc i don't really know how those work or run.

Thanks A lot!

Make and model of your case and PSU?
It would also be useful to know the rest of your specs.
What monitor(s) are you using with the system?
What exactly is the system used for?
300 USD budget?

Modern equivalent to GTX 970 performance would be something like a GTX 1650 Super. 6GB RTX 2060 should be a little faster than a 980Ti for the most part, so yeah it's a pretty reasonable upgrade from your GTX 970.

It's pretty hard to recommend an RTX 2060 though, I would just spend the extra $20 or so for a decent RX 5700 at that point, which will match an RTX 2070's performance. Or you could just sacrifice RTX and a little performance, save $70ish over the 2060 with a GTX 1660 Super which would still be more than adequate for a "shitty" monitor, assuming it's 1080p60Hz.
The RX 5600XT will also be out soon, and will be sub $300. It's a 5700XT with crippled VRAM, so it could perform really similarly at 1080p, though we won't know until we see reviews and benchmarks.

So, the 1660 Super, RX 5600XT and RX 5700 are probably the 3 GPU's I'd be picking between. However, if you are wanting an RTX 2060, this Zotac one is $300 with a promo code;
newegg.com/zotac-geforce-rtx-2060...u0fD9qc10g
and has better I/O than the EVGA KO model. The Zotac has 1 x HDMI and 3 x DP, whereas the EVGA KO has 1 x DVI, 1 x HDMI, and 1 x DP. Either the Zotac or EVGA KO would be the ones to get if you're set on an RTX 2060.
