Do you think crying is a sign of weakness?

First of all, I think it depends on the situation when someone cries. But I don't think it's a sign of weakness.

Nah, everyone processes things like sadness/stress differently, and if someone handles it via crying I don't believe they should face judgement for that. And vice versa, following a family members death I didn't cry much for whatever reason, and it annoyed me to no end hearing from others that I should be crying or that it's bad that I am not. Let people grieve and deal with things how they see or feel fit.

I suppose it would depend on the situation though, crying because you lost your office's fantasy football competition isn't really appropriate.

In a lot of ways, I see it as a weakness. Is it a coping mechanism, sure, problem is a lot of people when they cry are so vulnerable and so fragile momentarily they'll accept something that even remotely seems like it'll take that feeling away.

Then if we get to the people who literally cry because they're favourite pair of socks got a hole in it -- just people who find any reason to cry, they have a literal definition of a weakness.

The only real time I cried was when my ex and I broke up. Wasted like 5 years of my life in that relationship, engagement, basically knew her since I moved to America so that really screwed with me and 100% I will call myself weak during that time. The amount of bullshit coping I did to try and salvage my feelings, never again. I've done a lot of damage to my body over my early teen years up until now. Either careless with piercings and having them ripped out, being the jackass and hurting myself by doing the most outlandish shit ever, picking fights in school and sometimes getting my ass kicked, broken bones, overdosing on whatever pills I could find and/or drinking to the point of needing stomach pumps -- not once did I cry from them. I got called a cold heartless bastard by my own mother when my grandfather and my sister died because I didn't cry and because I said "well at least they died quick and painless." Never really understood that as the only thing you're promised in life is death, so not sure why people feel the need to cry or expect others to cry when someone dies but whatever. Like I said though, the one time I like fell apart emotionally and cried, goddamn was I the weakest little bitch ever.

So as blunt as it is, I see it as a weakness. There's a fine line between seeing it as a weakness and flat out calling someone a weak person. The people who cry for the slightest inconvenience in their life, the most petty thing possible, I believe they're a flat out weak person and seriously need to get outside of their bubble and grow up. People who cry because they lost a loved one, lost their job, lost their home, more serious stuff, I don't see them as weak, but I see crying as a weakness because the coping mechanism behind it allows you to talk yourself into a lot of situations that more than not end up doing more harm emotionally or mentally. It also opens the gateway for you to be taken advantage of because you are trying to cope and will accept things if they just make sense that they'll help out.
