So I have a MacBook Pro.
I have the option to software update from 'Mojave' to 'Catalina' - What are the pro's and cons, is it really worth it? https://i.gyazo.com/efbf1d43cc9a7648aad6c10aed6b928f.png |

These are the scores I found on a 2017 mid macbook pro, not sure if this is the one you have but does have a pretty good bottom line value. Start up for Mojave: 25 seconds Start up for Catalina: 27 seconds (Mojave) Macbook pro (13 inch mid 2017) Single core score: 901 Multi-core score: 2252 (Catalina) Macbook pro (13 inch mid 2017) Single core score: 892 Multi-core score: 2256 (Mojave) OpenCL score: 6676 (Catalina) OpenCL score: 6901 (Mojave) Disk Speed Write Test: 1431.7 Read: 2049.6 (Catalina) Disk Speed Write Test: 1286.3 Read: 2317.1 Honestly not too much of a difference, If you don't mind waiting a few seconds on the startup screen. And a small difference on the score value I would wait or upgrade. |

I recently purchased a 13" Macbook Pro and moved it straight to Catalina, and I use Mojave at work all day every day, the differences visually are minimal but there are definitely advantages to the upgrade and would do it again if given the choice. |

Are you getting an error or message stating as to why it wont update? |

Nope, not at all. Just downloads the update, I hit install it goes all the way to the end and never installs. |

That's strange, I've never had a download/install fail without giving me the usual messages like "macOS *_____* download has failed" etc. Is your Macbook Pro a 2012 Version or later? As I don't think Catalina supports any previous models. If so try some of the simple, obvious fixes like checking if you have enough storage left or try running the "Install macOS 10.15" in the Applications folder (if it has created one). If all fails I'd just bite the bullet and book in with a genius. |

First of all, you'll want to make sure you have a Mac that can run macOS Catalina. The following Macs are compatible:
12-inch MacBook (2015 and later) MacBook Air (2012 and later) MacBook Pro (2012 and later) Mac mini (2012 and later) iMac (2012 and later) iMac Pro (2017) Mac Pro (2013 and later) Advertisement When you have a compatible Mac and the macOS Catalina download completes, but there's no prompt for the installation to continue, then search in your Mac's application folder for a file called 'Install macOS 10.15'. Double-clicking the file should begin installation. If you encounter the macOS Catalina problem where the installation fails due to low disk space, simply restart your Mac and press Control + R while it's booting to enter the Recovery mode. Select 'Disk boot' to boot normally, then remove unnecessary files to make space. If your macOS Catalina is stuck on Setting Up Your Mac: If this is the case, you'll need to force a reboot of your Mac or MacBook. Don't worry, the 'Setting Up Your Mac' message means the update is finished, so you won't lose any data or damage anything by restarting your Mac. To do so, press and hold down the power button for a few seconds until the Mac or MacBook turns off. Wait a few more seconds, then turn it back on. Your Mac or MacBook should now boot into macOS Catalina successfully. |
