Check at Settings > Update & Security > Activation at the top under Status. If it says that Activation is managed by your organization, this error means that someone has activated Windows with a Volume License Key that is meant only for large organizations and businesses and not consumers. These keys expire regularly and must be reactivated by the IT department of the owner organization.
How was Windows 10 originally activated as you know it? If it was free Upgrade it should have a Digital LIcense stored in Microsoft servers that will reactivate whenever you reinstall as long as the generic key determining version is not tampered with in Activation Settings (as installing a VLK can do). If the PC came with Windows preinstalled from Factory remove the VLK and insert the embedded Product Key which can be read by installing ProducKey and looking for the OEM-BIOS key (only): nirsoft.net/utils/produkey-x64.zip To remove the VLK, type CMD in Start Search, right click to Run as Administrator. Type in Command Prompt: slmgr -upk with the space included, press Enter. |

Why the issue arises:
An Incorrect activation key: Your PC will suddenly seem to invalidate your Windows license if you have been using an invalid key. For example, volume license keys are meant specifically for corporate systems and may work temporarily then fail in personal machines. Hardware changes: A major hardware upgrade, like replacing your gaming motherboard might cause this issue. Windows reinstallation: Your computer may 'forget' its licensing after reinstalling Windows. An update: Windows even occasionally deactivates itself after an update. Run the Windows 10 Activation Troubleshooting Utility: Click the Start button and select Settings (as seen earlier). Again go to the Update & Security tab. Choose Activation and click on Troubleshoot. If it doesn't return any error message, the Troubleshooter tool should activate your Windows 10 in no time. Sign in to your Microsoft account and activate Windows 10: If your Windows 10 license is linked to the digital license/digital entitlement on your device, you will have to sign in to your Microsoft account then reactivate Windows using the troubleshooter. This is for situations where the problem arises after a considerable hardware change such as changing the CPU. Sign in to your PC as an administrator: Confirm that this administrator account is your Microsoft account as well. (Click Start then choose Settings followed by Accounts and check Your info). There will be the name Administrator under your username and an email address. Now go back to the activation page via the Start button > Settings > Update & Security and finally Activation. Again select Troubleshoot. Click I changed hardware on this device recently and then select Next in case the troubleshooter returns the error Windows can't be activated on your device. |

It has to be a bug if you haven't had any hardware changes. Even when I upgraded a majority of my computer last summer and it deactivated my key, I was still able to use my windows 7 OEM key I originally used to upgrade to Win 10 Pro back in 2016. |

Ehh.. skimming through the topic, I noticed someone mentioned OEM which is spot on. So you would have gotten an OEM key which, if it detects a hardware change, deactivates itself. If you try and re-install Windows, the key wont work since I believe it's a one time use key. Windows is just buggy anyway so best course of action would be to call iBuyPower and get yourself a new key. I'm sure they wouldn't say no to you if you explain what's happened. Else, another OEM key are fairly cheap on any e-tailer sites. |

Qualitest wrote I use KMSpico everytime I do a fresh wipe to reactivate my windows. I second this, though a proper key is always the better way as activators tend to fail after a period of times. Also when looking for this be sure you're careful. Don't want to do more harm than good. |
