Liko wrote Saw this not long ago, don't know if the numbers on it are true but it definitely took away most of my concern. Unfortunately the coronavirus infection numbers on that post are completely wrong. The number of infections outside of China has been growing faster than those infections inside China in the last few days. In fact if you look at active cases the totals are about tied. The rest of the numbers are correct from first glance, but whoever made it for some reason didn't take into account the spread of the disease and treated it like a snapshot event that wasn't stagnant. Most of the other causes of death they mentioned have nothing to do with infectious disease so I'm not even sure why they brought them into the conversation. They aren't comparable. Humans killing humans, diabetes, snake bites etc. don't even fall into the scope of their argument. Also not sure where they got their 1 in 45,000,000 odds of dying if you're in the US below age 50 if the mortality rate below age 50 is 0.2%. Two people dying out of every 1000 doesn't equate to a 1 in 45,000,000 chance. I guess they assumed it would never reach the U.S. I think that this person did a quick google search of causes of deaths, and put together a mash-up of facts trying to make COVID look less than it is without having any understanding of virology or even biology. Such things are dangerous imo, since the virus is significantly worse than this person let on. Even if you don't die, you may still experience permanent lung damage, so to say it isn't a dangerous disease because you won't die isn't safe either. We have no idea the long term repercussions of the disease (nor the short term) and so to not prepare and just be ok with getting it because you're younger than the 45 year old age mortality cut-off isn't smart or safe. I'd rather not be the person who infects someone who later dies. Also there's already been a new strain of the virus that's been found and it appears to be more virulent and can infect those already infected by the virus. Any zoonotic virus has a high mutation rate (since it mutated to get out of the animal in the first place) and new strains are always a looming possibility. Every single time the virus replicates it's possible for it to get a beneficial mutation that will help it spread. There are trillions of viruses being produced in the lungs of infected humans every minute, so there's probably pretty good odds of seeing additional strains. I understand you didn't make this and none of this is directed at you, I just wanted to make sure to get across that the image is mostly worthless/wrong. It made little sense when it's numbers were correct, and makes even less sense now. The best we can do is prepare and do our best not to be vectors . |

They have yet to close all public schools here in NYC and we have the most cases out of the united states. Cuomo is clowning us hard. |
