So my friend wants to move to PC, he knows nothing about PCs so it doesn't matter what brand (Intel/AMD), just whatever is better for high FPS gaming.

Budget will be £900.

Maybe something like this? uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/WGsdJb

No need for monitor/peripherals.

I misunderstood him, £900 is just for the build. He doesn't need a monitor. I've always heard that Nvidia > AMD for GPUs, I've personally avoided AMD GPUs just from reliability, software, optimisation etc. Would he not be better off with a 1660 or 2060 or something like that? Thanks for the build though

What monitor(s) is he using with the system then?

Speedom wrote I've always heard that Nvidia > AMD for GPUs

Not true.

Speedom wrote Would he not be better off with a 1660

Definitely not. That's a pretty big decrease in performance from an RX 5600 XT.
If you want to spend an extra 50 quid and lose some performance, then RTX 2060 is your alternative to the RX 5600XT.

He'll be getting a 144Hz monitor, but just saying £900 if for the initial build.

Just don't want to tell him to get something that will overheat and fail months down the line, and a lot of games are more optimised for Nvidia, want to avoid crashes and FPS hitches. I've seen it more in mobile chips for laptops, but AMD had a lot of issues with mobile chips failing.

Yeah 2060 might be the choice then.

The RX 5600XT is more efficient than the RTX 2060 lol. It's not going to "overheat and fail" in a few months.

Speedom wrote and a lot of games are more optimised for Nvidia

That's absolutely not true at all.

Speedom wrote want to avoid crashes

I've had plenty of crashes and driver issues with my NVidia GPU's over the years.

Speedom wrote and FPS hitches.

This depends entirely on the game. RTX 2060 has more "FPS hitches" in some games than the 5600XT, and vice versa.

£900 system to pair with a 1080p144Hz monitor, this is what I'd be getting;
PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor (£154.97 @ Amazon UK)
Motherboard: MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX ATX AM4 Motherboard (£103.99 @ AWD-IT)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory (£141.98 @ Aria PC)
Storage: Sabrent Rocket Q 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive (£109.99 @ Amazon UK)
Video Card: PowerColor Radeon RX 5600 XT 6 GB Video Card (£249.98 @ Amazon UK)
Case: Phanteks Eclipse P400A ATX Mid Tower Case (£58.65 @ CCL Computers)
Power Supply: Corsair TXM Gold 550 W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-modular ATX Power Supply (£64.32 @ CCL Computers)
Total: £883.88

You can save some money by dropping from 32GB to 16GB RAM, and then spend the extra 50 quid for an RTX 2060 like this one, if you really want;
