Where did you get your first tattoo or where will you get your first tattoo?

Im kinda looking into getting one. Obviously it's something im not going to rush into.

If you have any photos of your tattoo that would also be dope:)

My first tattoo was an owl on the inside of my forearm and I was supposed to finish this sleeve but this virus shut the shops down.

My first tattoo was an attempt I tried when I was 15 with some stupid ass prison gun tattoo that got infected literally within a few hours. My first ACTUAL tattoo was to cover up my mistake. Little shitty geometric minor blackout on the divot of my elbow was to cover up my attempt, which was then covered up when I finished my sleeve for that arm 3 years ago.

As for you OP for your first tattoo, anyone showing you a pain index chart, ignore that. People that post anything like this:

need to be kicked in their teeth. Everybody is different, everyone's pain tolerance is different. When people get to posting that shit around, it makes the person getting a tattoo usually uneasy and then ask their tattoo artist stupid questions that they've had to answer 1000s of times because "well I had seen this image online." Some people can get their ribs tattooed without their eyes even glazing over, where as others could get their forearm tattooed and suddenly they've gone and passed out or are screaming. Everyone is different, you know your pain tolerance. From there it's your job to research your tattoo artists because a good artist can make the tattooing experience so much better. Type of tattoo gun they use, type of needles they use, how much/loose they pack the ink, how heavy handed are they. A lot of factors go into making your tattoo experience much easier.

Don't go to some little budget tattoo shop that will do a whole sleeve for $600, no way in hell. I'm not saying you need to go drop 7k on a sleeve, but really trying to go for budget shops is a great way to get something that heals shitty, usually a not so good experience for you and as usual, the quality is what you pay. Just do your research when you're ready, when you get there, don't be afraid to mention it's your first tattoo, most artists are understanding and can work with you if you need breaks. Eat something filling beforehand, drink and bring lots of water, and something light for snacks if you're going to be there for a while. If you're someone who has blood sugar that can drop like crazy, bring something sugary like Gatorade or gummy bears; however, if you do not have that issue, do not bring snacks like that as insulin spikes can actually lead to a more painful experience and I've heard stories about it somehow screwing up the healing process during but I can't confirm that. Phone and listen to music or watch YouTube, try not to think about it if it's that much of a bother, don't pay attention to the needle or the noise. If you're someone that gets through stuff easier that you can see, feel free to just watch/stare at what they're doing. If you're able to, try and take a nap man, just let the artist know you're going to try and nap so they don't think you passed out and call an ambulance for you. Also don't drink alcohol or take pain killers or numbing before hand, that shit does not last forever and when it wears off, it wears off and everything comes full swing like a damn truck, plus it thins your blood, which makes you bleed more. Easier for ink to leak, harder for the tattoo artist to see what they're doing as they have to wipe constantly and the blood may obstruct lines/patterns or even where they were at and gives a really garbage healing process if you've just been pissing blood out of your skin from some sort of substance whilst getting tattooed.
