Well explained backwards compatibility matchmaking has been scuffed for sometime Halo Reach did this same thing when I tried that a long time ago I knew there were players but nothing found.

If enough people moan they will fix it with the next gen about to start and backwards compatibility being the main feature of the new Xbox they won't want people moaning right now.

Modern Warfare 3 suffers badly with this issue on Xbox One. It's extremely irritating. I've learnt to join people in my recent players, once I am in a lobby, everything is okay.
