Damn I would have thought Xbox would have said something.

It's hard for them to give a concrete date because this was a sudden cancellation. These companies usually get their booths scheduled right after the end of E3 and then everything during the next year leading up to the next E3, they start building their show floor presentation based on what they know. Once COVID hit and cancelled E3, everyone had to scramble to find a fix within less than 3 months time. Pair that with people now having to work from home, this was just naturally going to be a challenge. Nintendo was the only one I expected to be fully prepared since they pre-record all their shows and then air it over E3, they've been doing that for years.

It would be safe to say it would be cheaper, but I don't think anyone should assume it'll be a $100 or more savings. Optical drives/blu-ray drives aren't nearly as expensive as they used to be, so the savings will probably be in the double digits.

It won't be that much cheaper and if you go with that you won't be able to use your PS4 discs it's a huge trade off

All depends on how many people still rely on discs vs digital copies, I assume they have a large percentage that use digital copies to help justify releasing the system, from both a consumer point of view and a manufacturing point of view.

Tagging onto this, digital sales will save the publisher and gaming studios more money. I believe in 2016 there was an analysis that a game that sold for $60 -- $26 of that would be spent on a physical copy by. Sony back in May released a report about their 2019 profits and mentioned that physical sales were only 6% while digital sales were up 51% from 2018. While losing the option to use your discs may be a huge trade off, Sony and game publishers save money on the retail side of selling digital over physical. Again, I don't expect those savings to be really a huge difference in terms of digital console vs physical console, but something like $30-$50 savings isn't out of the realm of possibility. I do not think it will be triple digits or even double digits that are within an area to pass as almost triple digits.

I personally haven't used discs since early PS4, I still think there are people who use discs but I would say the vast majority of people are digital now.

It wasn't even about storage for me, I just hated having to change discs all the time, much better to just close the application and load the next one right away.
