I live in the Tampa Bay area. It's nice enough. Summer is obviously incredibly hot and because of the open atmosphere it rains nearly everyday. Winter is gorgeous, like 70 degrees and sunny every single day. St Pete and Clearwater beaches are some of the nicest in the world, I highly recommend Fort De Soto if you come to the area. Downtown St. Pete is amazing, one of my favorite places to be during non-COVID times. Fishing is also unmatched down here, saltwater/freshwasher we have it all!
Otherwise everything else mentioned in this topic is pretty much spot on. Lots of homelessness in the urban areas, social and economic disparity is pretty apparent. Horrible drivers. People in rural areas are pretty much stereotypical "florida man" type people who burn trash in the front lawn instead of paying for city removal. It's definitely an interesting place where you can see all sorts of people. There is no hiking or anything either, the state is incredibly flat. So don't come down if you enjoy outdoor walks through normal Northern terrain. Everything is just maple/cypress/mangrove swamp filled with gators and hogs. It is still one of the hardest things to adjust to down here, I still really miss hiking even after years of being here. |
