Okay, this topic has been on my mind since the latest call of duty was released and I thought I'd grab some peoples opinions on it too, for those who don't know what SBMM (Skill Based match making) is here's a description and a video link explaining further:

SBMM is where the game detects your level of skill based upon your score and K/D ratio and then when you search for a game, it will put you with players on your level. However, in most cases that's not what happens. There are brackets you're placed between varying better players with higher score. Not to mention reverse boosting that places extremely good players with fresh, below average players. Like KoreanSavage.

Drift0r explanation:

JGOD explaining I'm detail on reverse boosting:

In my personal opinion, I very much dislike this. Atleast when it came to other cod's you'd be playing random players, ranging from bad to good. With SBMM you're constantly playing competitive & sweaty which just makes the game very boring & overall ruins the experience for me.

What do you think? During the BO: Cold war beta - they used it. However, I'm not sure if they'll use it in the alpha. If it does, I'm sure as hell not buying it.

I would personally prefer it to be without SBMM. While the reasoning behind this in the first place is good, it creates more trouble than its worth imo. I always enjoyed the older CODs and looking back I appreciated the random matchmaking. So I would prefer if they go without SBMM for Cold War. Maybe there can be some sort of in between? Like perhaps they can offer a competitive or MLG playlist which is SBMM, and meant to be for the sweatier and more hardcore players.

Either way, I agree that SBMM is annoying

They did in black ops 4 I believe, they reintroduced league play/world league whatever it was called, only issue was that they didn't reward properly. If they made it so on ranked p/league play was to give you a huge XP bonus (perhaps 75K a win or just quad xp then more sweats would play it) but it just seems atm that SBMM is flawed. I saw a while ago they introduced a 5 game limit, which was supposed to stop reverse boosting. Which definitely didn't work. (After 5 bad games they give you one good game and depending on how well you did, they'll put you with below average players) it's actually shit seeing how bad there system had worked, it had potential but they just got the margins wrong, they should've put you in a mix - I have a 1.8KD so I should play between 1.5-1.8 Players instead of 1.5 all the way through to god dayum 4.0.

im sorry what?
Whats the point in playing competitive games when there is no fair skill involved?
Overwatch needs sbmm.
Idk about cod but i think there shouldnt be any form of competitive if they dont enable sbmm

Its literally pairing people of equal, less, or higher skill close to your range, and people decide to abuse it.
Pretty pathetic if you ask me

That's not what I'm aiming at and you know it.

I'm pointing at the fact that they should have a separate game mode for competitive players than the casual gamers. Because not everyone is a sweat. It's not just for those who want that competitive side.

Only a small minority of people would voluntarily opt in for SBMM. Everyone else (that sweats) would play standard and pub-stomp people because that's how the CoD community is.

I have mixed feelings on SBMM. I don't think it's optimized the way it should be. It's very one sided. I do think there should be some sort of SBMM to ensure "fair fight" in games, as well as making games more enjoyable for all. However, it needs to be tuned down. The system should somehow pick only a few people to SBMM (picking a few high KD players and equally sorting them onto teams rather than full lobbies).

Two players on each team with competitive and comparable KDs, filled with a team of moderate to low KD players, is a better balance than full lobbies of equally high KD players, or equally low KD players.

In all honesty, with the current SBMM they have horrendous margins for different level players. They class people with a KD of 0.8 an average player which will be in the bracket of 0.8 to 1.5 which in all fairness, isn't fair. People with a KD above 1.5 will be matched with people up to 2.5 etc. If they made it so that perhaps you'd play with JUST your KD levels and very slightly higher for example: 0.8KD matches with 0.7-1.0..

The older CODs also had SBMM btw. Straight from the mouth of the man who wrote the BO2 SBMM code.

The only people against it are people who are washed at the game and want to abuse noobs.

Are bo2 and bo3 included in that? Because i remember having a 7kd using an fal and c4 dropping swarms every game like it was nothing. Highest kd i had on bo3 was a 9 and it was the same.
