Getting caught committing insurance fraud carries the penalties of likely financial ruin and likely never being able to insure (legally drive) any car of yours again.
Glad you're okay, but I would just cut my losses and take the hit on your rate. They may end up dropping your coverage due to this, but it beats facing jail time. |

It doesn't matter why or how you ended up crashing, you will have a claim on your insurance.
By lieing to your insurance, you run the risk of getting caught for commiting insurance fraud, you run the risk of if they find out you lied they will not cover you and refuse you as a customer, and any other insurance company will know that so your rates will be MUCH higher if you can get insurance at all after lieing to them. Here's the thing, you were obviously not being too smart, and that's not their fault. You knew there is a risk of a wreck and you accepted that, don't try to push it off on someone else. Also I don't know how bad the car is or what the legal speed limit was, but at that speed if you were in say a 60 mph zone they will look at that car and compare it to crash tests and be like hey wait, even if they were doing 70 MPH, this car looks WAY worse than it should, are they telling the truth? Just be a good person, tell the truth and accept the penalty. |
