So currently my build is
CPU: i5 8600k GPU rtx 3080 MB msi z370 pc pro RAM 16gb @ 2400mhz Essentially I want to upgrade my ram, cpu and motherboard. Issue are that basically AMD cpu's are out of stock and intel will be releasing their next line fairly shortly but who knows what the stock situation will be like. I could upgrade my ram right now to something around the 3200mhz range but it will be overclocking my ram since my MB only supports up to 2600mhz without oc which means im going to have higher CPU temps. My CPU is already overclock too so my temps would be getting fairly high under load. Do I hold out to see if I can get an intel 11th gen or try to buy AMD now, or just go ahead with the 10th gen. |

322 wrote Essentially I want to upgrade my ram, cpu and motherboard. Why? What is your system currently not doing well enough for you? 322 wrote I could upgrade my ram right now to something around the 3200mhz range but it will be overclocking my ram since my MB only supports up to 2600mhz without oc which means im going to have higher CPU temps. Why even bother? No point spending $60+ on another kit of 16GB RAM to replace the 16GB kit you already have..? Just a waste of money IMO. Be better off adding another 16GB kit for 32GB total. Your motherboard definitely supports more than 2600MHz XMP. If speed is your concern though, I'd much sooner just manually overclock your current 16GB kit rather than buying a whole new 3200MHz kit. 322 wrote My CPU is already overclock too so my temps would be getting fairly high under load. CPU temps shouldn't rise drastically with a slight RAM speed increase. So unless you're already at the limits of your 8600K, I wouldn't be concerned. If your 8600K is already at temperature limits, then there are probably other things to worry about. 322 wrote Do I hold out to see if I can get an intel 11th gen or try to buy AMD now, or just go ahead with the 10th gen. Depends entirely on budget, currency, and what exactly it is you're looking to achieve with an upgrade? |

21 wrote322 wrote Essentially I want to upgrade my ram, cpu and motherboard. I aint gonna spend the time to quote it nicely sorry, but in some games my CPU hits 100% usage or close to with temps pretty high (honestly not as bad as I had it with my old cooler) ~80c+. ram usage also gets pretty high, especially with tabs open on my 2nd monitor. I am actually looking at 3600mhz ram for an actual significant increase. I just get stuttering in some games. |

322 wrote I aint gonna spend the time to quote it nicely sorry No worries lol. 322 wrote in some games my CPU hits 100% usage or close to with temps pretty high (honestly not as bad as I had it with my old cooler) ~80c+. Which games are you getting 100% CPU utilisation in? and is performance sub par? What is GPU utilisation at when CPU is at 100%? What resolution and refresh rate monitor are you running? Also, what CPU cooler are you using? 322 wrote ram usage also gets pretty high, especially with tabs open on my 2nd monitor. More RAM is going to be more beneficial than faster RAM then. |
