I was looking to get into some editing and making logos I'm just not sure what programs to use. I've heard mixed things about illustrator/photoshop but I will go with them if they are alright.

Illustrator and Photoshop are the programs most commonly used for logos, there are other options out there although I have only used the Adobe suite so I can't give you any alternative recommendations. Illustrator is used to create vector images which are the best option for logos as you can scale them up/down as much as you want without loosing quality. Another good reason to make logos in vector format is the fast load times when embedding them on a website as they only carry the data used for the browser to draw the shape (and any other info such as colour etc).

I hope this info is useful to you
