It really depends on how much spare time you have.

There are different types of servers...

- Vanilla
- Modded

Vanilla servers have no mods, (sometimes they do but they are very minimal.) This means that it will take you quite a bit of time to craft basic items or to even get a basic base up. The gather rate is much lower and you will do lots of running around and dying.

On a modded server you will have a higher gather rate, the ability to teleport to your friends and base and the loot will be much much better, but it will be faster paced.

Some vanilla servers wipe every month which means you will have to restart from square 1 every month.

As for modded servers most wipe every 5-7 days, so you will have to do everything again in that period.

Basically, what im trying to say is this game will not be fun if you want to casually play it but if you are going to dedicate a bunch of time to it and possibly play with a team then it will be fun.

Hope that answered some questions

Modded servers that boost rates are usually really fun, easy to grind gear and instantly get into PVP instead of Vanilla servers where you spend most of your time farming. If you do get it, find big pvp modded servers to play. That is all I do and have fun doing it.
