This is my current PC spec, I had it for 5 years and it is due for an upgrade
- Quiet PC Nofan A470 Silent Tower - CS-70 Fanless Computer Case - GA-Z97MX-Gaming 5 LGA1150 Micro ATX Motherboard - 4th Gen Core i7 4790K 4.0GHz 88W HD4600 8MB Quad-Core CPU - Ballistix Sport 32GB (4x8GB) 1600MHz CL9 DDR3 Memory - CR-95C Pearl Black IcePipe 95W Fanless CPU Cooler - P-500A Silent 500W Fanless Power Supply Unit - IEC C13 UK Mains Power Cord, 1.8m (Type G) - ST-OB2 Slot-Load Blu-ray Reader Is it worth upgrading the mobo (to 12th gen DDDR4), CPU (12th Gen i7), and DDR 4 RAM to save on getting a new case and a PSU? Budget and currency £600-700 Office use, video and still image editing, and watching 4k films I am using it with a BenQ U3220 I don't need a keyboard, mouse, or other peripherals? Do you need an operating system? Windows 10 Will overclock |

Well, about 1 yr ago, I upgraded from a i7 4700 with 16gb of ram, to a 9700k and 32gb, and it made a huge difference when it comes to just doing basic tasks. Overall the computer felt so much better, regardless of a graphics card. I would say that it would be 100% worth it to upgrade the CPU MOBO and RAM that would fit your budget, Id recommend 32gb but 16gb would be fine IMO. also on those old Mobos, m.2 SSD slots did not rly exist so that's also a plus for later down the road.
best of luck |

Assuming you've got a decent GPU, I'd probably just do something like this;
PCPartPicker Part List CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 3.7 GHz 6-Core Processor (£209.58 @ Aria PC) Motherboard: Asus TUF GAMING B550-PLUS (WI-FI) ATX AM4 Motherboard (£137.90 @ Amazon UK) Memory: Patriot Viper Steel 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3600 CL18 Memory (£104.93 @ More Computers) Storage: Samsung 980 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive (£86.87 @ Scan.co.uk) Case: Phanteks Eclipse P400A Digital ATX Mid Tower Case (£83.99 @ CCL Computers) Power Supply: Corsair RMx (2018) 550 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply (£59.98 @ Currys PC World Business) Total: £683.25 Then upgrade GPU when the market is better. If you don't have a decent GPU, then you might have to swap the R5 5600x for an R5 5600G and run integrated graphics for now or make some sacrifices in the build to potentially be able to afford some sort of GPU. |
