Woah, getting your oil changed at 3k miles seems a bit pointless. The normal schedule in the UK is around once a year but can be every 10/12k miles

I change it every 6-7k miles I also use synthetic oil. It costs me a little under $40 to change it myself.

Chosen wrote I usually do about every 5k. One of my first jobs was at an oil change place and I learned quick they recommend you get it changed a lot sooner than actually needed because they wanna make that money quicker.
thats not why lol.

Why is it then ? Why should I listen to a mechanic over the actual manufacturer like Toyota in my case ? Generally curious not trying to be an as*hole lol

because engineers dont actually work on cars.

especially when using blend or conventional oils they break down and become sludge and often higher mileage cars burn it and wouldnt make it 5-7k etc between oil changes before being super low on oil.
with synthetic the bar has been pushed a little further but people shouldnt be driving 10k miles before changing the oil.

I mean yeah I get full synthetic and change mine every 7.5k roughly. Oil and car has been fine since but idk. Just seems weird that the engineer for the car doesn't know the correct requirements for it to run optimally ? Thats like the local game shop repair guy knowing more about a PS5 than Sony themselves. Or the milk expert saying you shouldnt drink milk after it being opened more than 3 days but on the milk itself it says its good up to 7 days ? Not saying your wrong its just that your logic seems weird tbh

engineers just design it, they dont know real world results etc. im a tech i work for GM and we see the real world results of engineers stupidity, you can easily look it up and youll notice most manufactures the engineers are the dumbest part of the brands
