Hi,
I currently have the following PC for my kids, built in 2018. It has been doing fine until recently, playing minecraft/roblox and similar online games. They have recently started playing games such as Valorant, Civ 6, Space Engineers and the PC is not doing doing the best. It works and they can play ok, but as you could imagine, there's a bit of lag sometimes and general slowness. I was thinking since it doesn't have a dedicated GPU, installing one would make a major difference and this would be good enough to give it a boost for now? CPU: Intel Core i5-8400 2.8 GHz 6-Core Processor Motherboard: Gigabyte H310M H Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard Memory: G.Skill Value 8 GB (1 x 8 GB) DDR4-2666 CL19 Memory Storage: Samsung 860 Evo 250 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive Storage 2: 2 TB HD (Seagate I think) Case: Cooler Master Elite 344 ATX Mini Tower Case w/420 W Power Supply My question is, would just adding a mid range GPU straight into this system give a decent boost? Would upgrading anything else be essential (eg PSU)? The cost is not a major factor, but I don't want to get an over-powered GPU for the system, just whatever is a suitable boost. Should I be looking at anything else for a quick win, such as another stick of RAM? I'm not looking for a kickass top-of-the-range transformation, just an easy win or two to improve the experience. Separately, I will be buying a complete new system to replace the even older i3 for them. Thanks for any advice. |

The build isn't bad as is, a little outdated on the "preferred" layout but really all that needs changed would be case, PSU and having 16gb>8gb for RAM. Helps with those heavier titles. List below of what could be done.
What I'd change
both of my boys have my old 1070s. Still run great for their needs which are similar and still can play modern titles. |

Thanks for the info. I've gone with your advice, except I've bought a new GPU because it was easier . |
