I've been meaning to get to this for a while haven't had the time. Just going to be a light brief breakdown and possibly an in-depth one if i get around to it in the coming days.

    The Good
    • Tone mapping and correction
      • Initially this was nailed, color wise it's not my favorite but you did use some form of complementary tonality which is good. Most people overlook this and it creates and oddball effect down the line.
    • blending on the initial image
Where it made sense and didn't
      • The character blending is on point to an extent(no blur or blending on the outline) when it comes to meshing with other textures.
      • The clouds in some sections are not blended correctly or at least faded out correctly in their opacity.
        • This could be corrected by just adjusting the opacity and maybe working a little more with lighting.
      • The grainy/dirt overlay makes sense but at the same time it feels very out of place in the top left of the image.
        • I'd crop it to fit around the lower portion of the clouds to reflect what you were going for.
    • concept
      • I like the concept of the image. Not really much more to say there, before watching the breakdown i thought it was just a bad edit (more on this later below)
    The not so Good
    • texture mapping
      • There are a few things that don't make sense.
        • The dirty/grainy effect as an overlay. It's not entirely needed and just clashes, makes the image more dirty looking. While not the worst this certainly is off putting for me.
          • My fix would be to add some color into it and crop out of the clouds where it really overlays in a nasty mixture.
          • A way to fix that would be with shadowing or highlighting some of it. Match the colors, orange/yellow/blue and just accent some of the individual pieces.
        • The second image seems to want to map an idea of it being a full area. The clipart texture had little to no editing making it stand out negatively. IMHO that idea should be scrapped if you don't plan on blending it further.
    • overlaying
      • A lot of what is wrong here has to do with opacity and overall blending. Minor fixes would go a long way with this. One of the major things seems to be a filter overlayed. Crop the top of the image and this will be fixed, just looks odd seeing a blatant color correction error at the top.

As always constructive criticism is never a final word. Everyone views art differently this is just a little more of a critical breakdown on some aspects.

Cheers to some great CNC! I agree with the most of the corrections suggested, all of which will help tie in the design to look more 'real' which is the goal of a manip.

To notate some pressure points:
1. The glowing characters shadow is very stiff, could use some work there. Do a quick study by looking at photographs similar to someone walking away from the cam and really give those shadows a look, you will see where to improve with blurring and displacing.

2. Another point is the opacity issues in the godlike character. He needs to remain full enough in the right areas, like hands and mid section, tailing out the lower body will look decent still. You just need to enhance the presence of that character, bump that opacity up and blend out with shades of grey on the mask to get it right.

3. Lastly the lighting is not global, the columns are lit opposed to being in shadow because the light sources are the sky & characters. No light would be cast on the foremost point.

Keep it up, try a more simple manip and focus on getting that lighting and realism down. Shit if its an apple on a table but I can't tell you added the apple then you nailed it. For your next one keep it real simple, something you can get good reference on and try to just match the tone of everything. Once you get that down revisit some of your more complex ideas! I have done it in the past and was able to finally create what i saw in my head years ago.
