hello, i recently have taken the quest to try therapy and to try to improve on myself as a person and so on through it. just curious if any of you guys have done therapy and what results you got from it. i am trying it through the app BetterHelp so it will be over the phone and not in person. Still hoping for it to help me with my depression and stuff.
Also, how do you guys deal with depression (if you have it)? I kind of have been struggling the past year with it and it's been a rough ride haha |

Hello!
I went to therapy when I was younger for a little and tried going two years or three ago. I went for three or four sessions. It was good honestly and it did help because you don't realize well I didn't realize personally how much stuff I held or didn't know what was bothering me. After awhile I stopped going because I felt like the counselor was a little judge mental but I heard that's normal to not always connect right away with some therapists. I heard you have to find a good therapist/counselor which of course makes a difference. To help with depression: not that I have it but everyone goes through down times in their life or anxious times so sometimes if I was more sad or anxious I try to work out which is huge because working out really helps me mentally, as I think better and more happier over time. Also self help books helped me out a lot because there is so many resources out there that can help you on which part you're struggling with. For example I just got this book called "The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment is a book by Eckhart Tolle". It presents itself as a discussion about how people interact with themselves and others. The concept of self reflection and presence in the moment are presented along with simple exercises for the achievement of its principles. Long story short there's book out there that help with thinking, feeling better and etc. Lastly I believe what you eat really effects your mood as your gut is correlated to what you eat which effect your mood. So if you eat crappy food or not nutrients - you won't feel good or feel emotionally happy if that makes sense. Not everyone journey is the same and different approaches help people. I think it is awesome you're trying therapy because worse come to worse you can stop if it's not for you. Good for you working on yourself & I wish the best of luck. Please don't hesitate to message or reach out to me if you need someone to talk to or for whatever reason don't be a stranger lol! |

Seeking out help is always the best thing to do! Sharing with family and friends or having someone like a therapist will help out alot.
Also writing stuff helps clear your mind if you are feeling down or sad. Hopefully you will have a good connection with him/her i found that to be the hardest part in looking for help! Always remember there are alot of people out there who want to help you and you are not alone! |

Jen wrote Hello! yeah I have been looking into a lot of different self help things over the last few weeks. Such as like apps to kind of set goals, or like things that are simple but help you feel better like drinking water right away after waking up or something like that. I have kind of been looking into podcasts as well for that stuff. I try to focus on gaming cause I know I have a passion for gaming and I heavily enjoy it but even nowadays, it just seems so stale and seems like I have lost my touch with myself. Last year around this time, I called the prevention hotline and I told myself to try and get help before I go down that road again. Thank you for the words and advice (: |

Yeah I have been working on Journaling more before I go to sleep. I kind of do like a late night thoughts type of thing which seems to somewhat help sometimes. I tried to talk to my mom but it's more or less, I don't want to let her down in a sense and bring her down so I try to avoid it. Same with friends. I feel like it's my burden and not theirs if that makes sense haha |

Yep, I went for around 7-8 weekly sessions on 2015. It was incredibly helpful. I didn't really have anybody I was comfortable to talk about my issues with and the anonymous ear lent was something I had no idea I needed. It took me about 15 minutes to speak and I couldn't believe that 45 minutes had passed when the fella told me that time was up. I was dying to go back the following week. I undertook the therapy alongside some major philosophical and psychological shifts aided by some less conventional methods which I believe assisted and catalysed the effects of the therapy. There are many other ways in which therapy can help one heal and many techniques in how it can be used. Some work better for some people, some ways are better for others.
I would definitely recommend exploring the path. |
