Looking for opinions,

I am going to buy an iPad Pro 12.9, after watching many reviews and benchmarks, the 6th gen M2 does not have much over the 5th gen M1 but is better in a few areas. But not to warrant £500+ i do not think.

I am torn between the a grade A M1 2TB and the M2 256gb + Kensington studio dock and apple pencil, total is around £1300. Both the same price and i am trying to work to the best device for less money otherwise i would buy the M2 1TB for £2049, plus kensington studio dock, plus pencil, which would cost total of £2300... £1000 more than what i have narrowed it down to.

Pros of getting the M1 is that it has 16gb Ram and 2TB ssd, and was a major upgrade to previous ipad pros, while the M2 only has 8gb 256gb and is not much of an upgrade that the m1 ipad pro was.

But then the pros of getting the M2 is that the M2 is slightly better, faster in some cases, and newer.

I feel like it could be better to have the 16gb Ram and 2TB over the benefits of the M2.

I plan to keep it a long time, and use it as my main device, with a 34inch 3K widescreen external monitor. Light editing, social media, websites(no code although i may learn swift), pro create etc.

Im sure both would work but what would be a better buy, Anything thoughts?

I'd go with the current gen model, but as you wrote both are adequate. The CPU difference between M1 and M2 is only like 12%, but the GPU upgrade is more like 30%

I mean for light usage, the M1 is enough. I've been happy with mine over the last year. I don't find myself using it for much more than some light editing and illustrator so my overall load is likely lighter than yours, however never really noticed any issues with what i throw at them. If you want to assure yourself long term, current gen then.
