Hi,

I mostly use my PC for Warzone 2, Rust & a couple of other games. I THINK that my current build is fairly good, however I am having FPS issues on Warzone 2. I know the game isn't optimized well for PC but I watch streamers that are achieving 240+ FPS, which I want. So my question is, do you think my current PC is worth upgrading? Or do you think I should sell this and buy a new build? I want a 4090 GPU as a definite.

My current PC specs:

I9-9900k - 8-core 16 thread 3.6GHz (5.0GHz turbo)
Asus TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3070 v2 RGB
Asus TUF Z370-Plus Gaming Mobo
Corsair Vengeance RGB pro 32GB 3200MHz
Corsair Vengeance Light Enhancement Kit
500GB Samsung Evo SSD & 2TB HDD
Antec Earthwatts Pro series 750w Gold Psu
X13 RGB Fans

I don't need a monitor etc. i currently have:

X2 Alienware 25, 240Hz RGB monitors
Hyper X Alloy Origins Core RGB. Cherry Red keys
Steelseries Arctis 7 RGB wireless
Logitech G403 RGB mouse
Corsair extended mouse mat

Requirements for build:

4090 Graphics card
Price? IDEALLY under $6k Canadian but willing to spend more for a top pc
I'd appreciate help & advice

EDIT: Would be used to stream.

That's one hell of a build you have currently. I can't believe you are having frame rate issues. I'm rocking 3rd gen ryzen 7 with a 2070 super with very little fps issues. Makes me wonder if there is something causing your issue. Granted, I don't play on max settings and my monitor is only 144hz.

With that being said, I think you've got a couple of avenues you could go.

Option One
Upgrade only GPU and Power Supply (750w may be enough but upgrading this now will help future proof PC)

Option Two
Build a new PC.

If you are looking to upgrade your CPU, you'd have to upgrade the motherboard due to socket compatibility. At this point, you'd want to build a new PC.

You may want to look more into your issue to see if there are solutions other than building a new PC, in my opinion. If you do insist on a new build, I'd be happy to help with a build list.

240Hz is an entirely different beast than 144Hz.

OP - Good luck getting 240+ FPS in Warzone 2. The only real way to get a 'comfortable' 240+FPS in Warzone 2 would be with an i9-13900K and an RTX 4090.

So I guess a brand new system is the only way to go if you're determined to get as much FPS as possible and don't care how much money you burn(up to $6k CAD lol). That said, if it were me, I'd definitely just start with a GPU upgrade.

First of all, how old is that PSU? If it's more than a few years old, it may be worth just replacing it now. Then grab an RTX 4090 and see how you are from there. If you still find it's not enough, then you only really need to swap your mobo and CPU(13900k + Z790 DDR4 Mobo).. though you could go DDR5 if you want. If you're building from scratch, I would just go DDR5 regardless.

If you're building a system from scratch, then I'd look at something like this;
PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: Intel Core i9-13900K 3 GHz 24-Core Processor ($754.50 @ shopRBC)
CPU Cooler: ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 360 A-RGB 48.8 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($204.99 @ Memory Express)
Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX Z790-A GAMING WIFI ATX LGA1700 Motherboard ($529.99 @ Canada Computers)
Memory: G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6400 CL32 Memory ($259.99 @ Canada Computers)
Storage: Western Digital Black SN850X 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive ($214.99 @ Newegg Canada)
Video Card: MSI SUPRIM LIQUID X GeForce RTX 4090 24 GB Video Card ($2549.00 @ Canada Computers)
Case: Fractal Design Pop XL Air ATX Full Tower Case ($184.98 @ Newegg Canada)
Custom: Corsair RM1000x Shift ($284.99)
Total: $4983.43

13900k and RTX 4090 are a no brainer. Grab whichever RTX 4090 you like the look of best. Motherboard is a bit expensive, but you have the budget so why not? If you want something cheaper, then look at Asus Prime or TUF Z790 boards lol. Gigabyte AORUS Elite AX(or whatever it's called) is a decent alternative but if you like Asus, buy Asus. I'd personally stick with Asus, either Strix or TUF line-up.

As for CPU cooler, that's going to be up to you. I've included a good AIO, but I'd personally be buying a high end air cooler. Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 would be my choice, but there are plenty of decent air coolers. If you want an AIO, then the Liquid Freezer 2 is a really solid option, in either 280mm or 360mm form. If you don't like the look of it though, buy basically whichever 280mm or 360mm AIO you do like the look of. 360mm AIO will fit in the front of the Fractal Pop XL Air, 280mm will fit in front or up top. As for case, there are plenty of alternative options if you don't like the Pop XL Air, that's just what I'd probably buy if I was buying a new case right now lol.

For DDR5 RAM, you can find cheaper kits. 5600MHz CL40 are in the $170ish CAD region for non-RGB. However, this 6400MHz CL32 kit is a really nice sweet spot and is RGB. It will be noticeably faster than 5600MHz. 7000MHz+ @ CL34 would be your next step up, but you're looking at $350+ at that point for a less substantial improvement in performance.
With your budget though, you could go 7000+MHz if you really want. You could even go up to a 64GB kit if you want.

I've added 2TB PCIe 4.0 SSD because why not? You could spend more money on something slightly more high end, like a Samsung 990 Pro but I don't think it's really worth the premium. The 2TB SN850X for that price is absolutely killer. Again though, with your budget, you could absolutely go with a 990 Pro if you want to. You could also add a bunch more storage if you want/need lol.
Either way, I would carry over the storage you're using from your current system unless you don't really need it.

The new Corsair RMx Shift PSU's are mega cool IMO. That's definitely what I'd be getting if buying a new PSU. The RM850x Shift would do you fine but you have the budget for the 1000W. If you'd rather get a more normal orientation/layout PSU, then the normal RM(x) PSU's are probably slightly cheaper than the Shift's so those would also be a good option.

You've also got plenty of money left here to put towards any peripherals, accessories, fans, etc that you might want to add. Or carry over any fans/accessories from your current system that you want to re-use.

@21 ,You've been a massive help, thank you. My PSU is around 2 years old.
Truthfully, I gave myself a budget of around $10k CAD but ofcourse i'd rather be spending less than that. I want to replace my monitors as I currently game at 1080p; I would prefer 2k.

I'm definitely going to look at the parts list and more than likely buy what you suggest.

I'm in the same boat as you, asking basically the same question. I'm still on 9th gen too, 9900kf running on water, overclocked 5.1/4.8, running 4400mhz memory etc so it's pushed as far as I can go on this platform. Luckily for us, 9900k and Z390 boards sell quite well on eBay!

I found an RTX 4090 at MSRP so I went ahead and bought it in preparation for the Ryzen 7000 X3D release (because of how the 5800X3D shook things up). This is why I haven't bought a 13900k yet. GamersNexus speculates that the X3D chips coming in April will be a better value than the 7950X3D, review embargo lifted today. I think it's clear to everyone that in absolute performance the 13900k is still #1 and I am 99% sure I will end up with one soon, I just want to be sure.

Anyways I'd just go 13th gen per 21's suggestion. Arctic AIO is the most performant one out there. I wouldn't recommend a 13900k on air unless you're building in a Fractal Torrent. Maybe if you never plan on an OC. But yeah, it's best out there!

I can definitely agree with moving away from 1080p lol. That said, are you happy to sacrifice the 240Hz refresh rate? 1440p, 3440x1440 or 4k @ 144Hz+ might be a solid option for you.

You could definitely save some money, it all depends what exactly you want. If you want 240FPS at 1080p in Warzone 2, then you'll pretty much need an i9-13900K and an RTX 4090 lol.

If you are interested in replacing monitors though, I would probably just do that at the same time. Figure out exactly what you're looking for and build the entire set-up all together.

Ooh, that's saucy

Those Uni fans are cool, and I bet they save a load of hassle lol.

Also +1 for the case, would have been my 2nd recommendation after the Pop XL Air lol.
