Im just trying to make a pretty decent pc for the garage. And i have a pc laying around so decided to try to upgrade it. Its a hp elitedesk sff 800 g1 tower. here is a link to the specs of it.
[Minimum post requirement for links] i got 32gb of ddr3 laying around so i will use that. what im having trouble and not really understanding is the hard drive portion of it. the mother board dont have a m.2 slot , so was looking at installing a pcie to m.2 adapter. was wondering if the speeds would be good? or if it would even work? and does my mother board even support it cause i seen on the apapter it calls for 4.0 or something like that. can anyone send me in the right direction to a adpter that might work with my motherboard in the hp. i do have a m.2 already and would like to use it but not sure if i can, and if it would just be a waste if i even could....please let me know. the m.2 ssd i got is this. crucial P3 500GB PCIe Gen3 3D NAND NVMe M.2 SSD, up to 3500MB/s - CT500P3SSD8 ANY HELP WOULD HELP OUT TONS..... THANKS |

I have a PCIe adapter with 5 slots. I m currently using 4 m.2 ssd. 2 one the motherboard and 2 in my adapter. It does need to be a PCIe 4.0 for them to properly work. As far as the Speeds go I haven't seen a very noticeable difference between them. I am going to look over your pc specs and see if there is any info on the PCIe ports. |

So on some quick research you can run a PICe 4 in any version of a PCIe slot(1-4) but at what ever the port speed was originally. For example PCIe4 in a PCIe2 slot at PCIe2 speeds. |
