As some of you avid Old School Runescape nerds on here may know, there might just be a new skill on the horizon: Sailing. Now, there's a pretty informative "overview" of what the skill may or may not entail, if the skill does pass the poll. It's not sure if it will be a new skill that will solely depend on your combat level or if certain niche accounts (take skillers for example) will be able to participate. It would be a bummer to me if the skill was dependant solely on the use of combat since I'm not a combat leaning player but it seems to me like it will be more a non-combat skill from what has been said and shown about the new skill. The skill will literally involve ports, boats and other sailing related things which might suggest the integration of skills like woodcutting, fletching, fishing. I'm just taking a wild shot in the dark and say that the boats will be like the famous waka canoes in the aspect of the creation of the boats.

Here's a review of the current information available about Gielinor's potential new skill: osrsguide.com/osrs-sailing-skill/
(If you had no clue, this is a great article for you to possibly form an opinion about it.)

Now, my opinion might be slightly biased due to the fact that I enjoy the nostalgia factor in this game but I'm kind of leaning towards voting "No" on the new skill. The only thing that keeps me still not completely decided is the fact that I don't want to be a "party pooper" for all the users who would enjoy brand new content that wasn't just an expansion to a current skill or another minigame/boss like they've done with Woodcutting (Forestry), Fishing (Tempoross), Firemaking (Wintertodt), etcetera. It's always good to bring new and fresh things to a game that's been pretty much the same since its release in 2013, even though I can say that this isn't exactly the same game that brought us back for the nostalgia which is 2006-2007 Runescape 2. I'm still torn as I write this, I'm sitting at West Varrock's big bank Poll Booth, not sure what I'd pick.

How do you guys feel about the possible introduction of a brand new skill? Will the Jagex team repeat the trend of users leaving due to "big" changes like when the likes of Summoning, Dungeoneering and especially Evolution of Combat were released? Or might the team actually have the brains to make this work without potentially causing another big flock of users? I'd really like to know opinions of other current and active players on the matter.

P.S. The poll for this skill, among other additions to the game, will close on Friday the 25th of August. If you haven't voted, make sure to take the time to head to any Poll Booth at a bank near you so you can read up on the poll questions and take informed decisions! Let's see where this Poll takes the game, huh?

Personally, I think it will be a great addition to the game. A game like OSRS can't stay in the past forever and that's fine. I'm not saying we need EOC and Dungeoneering back but we got to move forward. Imagine if we didn't get things like Cox/ToA, Hell even Zulrah. It's well documented that when OSRS first came out that it was on a huge decline due to nothing new being added. And the OSRS team has showed that they can pump out some amazing and original content, DT2 bosses, Nightmare, Raids, Hell even RS3 saw how good infernal was and made their own twist on it.

While i personally would've liked warding more, I'm personally going to get back into the game pretty soon to build my bank back up and prepare for Sailing and its probably the only reason i'm actually considering breaking my burnout streak.

As for being "that guy" who votes no, It's all up to you, If you don't want the new skill, vote no but me personally I'm all about games moving forward (in a positive way)

I'm all for a new skill and willing to give pretty much anything a chance.

Sailing probably wouldn't be my first choice though, I voted no and I think the other options out there are something I'd like a bit more.

I won't be upset if it gets added. I wish they presented us with more than one skill at a time.

Sailing didn't have my vote but I'm still excited for the new skill. Hopefully it turns out as good as the recent blogs have been looking!

Really like that they're intertwining multiple skills into the new skill!

I am really against this idea. I have read all the stuff they release on the site and I just think it isn't something that really would be enjoyed by most of the community. I think that new methods of skilling and even new skills for that matter, are amazing. But it just has to make sense. It has to of course be enjoyable, but it also has to fit into the game. Like this skill, it is just random. I get the premise. But even if they just like, released dungeoneerIng onto this game, that would make way more sense and just flow so much better then something like they've been working on now for so long. And it is really sad to see.

Well, as of 6 hours ago, the poll closed and the OSRS team has made it official that they're implementing the Sailing skill as the mayority of the community voted in favor of it.

Not exactly ecstatic about it but if that's what the community wanted, guess we'll have to make due. Now, it's all about seeing if the skill will be implemented correctly and without issue. Only funny thing about this is seeing the max cape tryhards get pissy about losing their max cape.

after watching a few videos on it, I am actually more excited for it now. I dont think it is as bad as we make it out to be in our heads.
