My apartment building provides internet service as part of the lease agreement through some random commercial ISP I've never heard of. In my area of downtown there's only one ISP that offers service to private homes because of non-compete agreements the last time I checked, so if I had to carry my own plan I would basically be stuck with only a single overpriced option, and likely with worse speeds. Edit - This is using a wired connection. I just checked wireless on my phone and it's around 130 down 110 up or so. I don't really notice the difference at all between 900+ down and 100-200 down. But the difference between the 10-20 mbps I used to have in a rural area, and the 100-200 mbps wireless is night and day. |

I really wonder why we can't get that sort of speed in UK. But I'll have to say it, this is just outrageous speed (both upload and download) it makes me jealous. Hope you enjoy it though! If I torrent a movie or something I still am limited by the seed count and don't really get above 2-8 mbps. This is in a large metro area so the infrastructure is available for pretty fast speeds. In rural areas around here it used to be common to pay double what internet costs here, only to get 10-20mbps down and pretty shit ping. |

With VPN (connected to Virginia from China)
Without VPN This is with WiFi, I haven't bothered testing the LAN as it's in the bedroom and not the study for some reason. I really can't complain, I thought it might be dreadful when I was coming here but it's been absolutely fine once I got set up. Ping is shocking, but I'm not gaming while I'm here so it doesn't bother me none. In my building in the Netherlands we have 900, but we capped it at 150 to most peoples devices because it doesn't make much difference and we can have 500+ devices connected at peak times. My ping there is ALWAYS below 10, usually around 5-7 |
