In the UK, manual transmissions were the norm but it's all switching these days. Ugly crossovers with auto boxes everywhere now.

I have only ever driven manual transmission cars, it's a must for me, I just don't enjoy driving automatic cars. I was driving 15,000 miles a year, in traffic for plenty of it and never had an issue with a manual.
Between my work van and my daily, I'm now doing more than 20k miles a year and still only drive manual lol, even the work van.

In 2021 I was considering buying a brand new hot hatch. I was looking at everything in the £40k range, so Mk8 Golf GTI(Golf R was over 40k), BMW M135i xDrive, Merc A35, Hyundai i30N, etc. A lot of them have gone auto only, I test drove and just could not cope with having to drive an auto as my daily lol. Mk8 GTI and i30N were the last 2 I narrowed down to because they were the only ones with a manual transmission option but they both bored me so much that I just kept my Mk6 GTI.

I took my drivers test in a 2004 5 speed Hyundai Tiburon GT v6 (My first Car) Now I own a Subaru WRX STI 6 Speed and Its my Daily . I was always told if you learn how to drive a manual you can drive anything. To this day that held true.

I feel that should be the other way around.

I didn't know how to drive a manual until I shortly became an automotive technician many moons ago. The other technicians got tired of pulling in manual cars for me, so I basically taught myself using customers cars. Which non were harmed thankfully.

they are so much better to drive. Manuel give you that feel of control that automatics dont.
