My monitor supports 160hz at 1080p, with a HDMI.

Is there any point in buying a display port cable so I can potentially play 1440p on 160hz?

that all depends on the age of your graphics card, If it doesn't support HDMI 2.1 you will only get up to 144hz via HDMI, versus your display port standard and what it supports.

It's a 1080p panel. It can't display 1440p. The output will be scaled if you set a res other than 1080p in the driver.

For some reason it is saying that I can at this rate, as well as playing cod in 1440p

You can set any resolution you want in the driver. There are only 1920 by 1080 pixels on the display. Any other output will be scaled.

ah shit, guessing there's no point in getting a DP over a HDMI then?

I am just hoping to get the best performance to HZ>FPS = Resoultion, so I am guessing that means 1080p with 164hz is optimal for my monitor?*
