Red Dead Redemption 2 news: Shock update for PS4 and Xbox One release

More has been revealed about what looks set to be one of the biggest games of the year, Red Dead Redemption 2.

Having had to wait months for any real release date news, new details have started pouring out, just weeks before the big day arrives on consoles.

PS4 and Xbox One fans will have massive downloads when the game launches on October 26, 2018, and now we're learning more on why that is.

Red Dead Redemption 2 will take up a lot of space on hard drives, and the reason could be connected to the sheer amount of content being laid out by Rockstar.

According to the latest news shared about the game, over 1000 actors were used to voice the game's NPCs.

The report indicates that nearly every single NPC will have their own personality, a possible first for any game released this generation.

And what about the news about the Red Dead Redemption 2 map size?

A recent Q&A with the company suggested that the area of exploration would encompass the entire original Red Dead Redemption map.

Now this information has since disappeared but that doesn't mean there isn't any truth in it.

And it would go a fair way to explaining the 100GB of space needed to install RDR 2 on PS4 and Xbox One.

Fans may have also been shocked to learn that Red Dead Redemption 2 was set to offer more content on PS4, then it will on the Xbox One.

This was confirmed by Rockstar a while back, but the content itself has only just been confirmed.

According to Sony, PS4 gamers will get 30 days early-access content which will be spread across single-player and online.

Arthur Morgan is getting a special Grizzlies Outlaw Outfit, while a new Arabian horse, featuring a custom Alligator skin saddle and High Roller double-action revolver, will be going live for the online section of the game.

To get these special items, players will need to have an active PS Plus subscription.

"Both Red Dead Redemption 2 and its multiplayer experience, Red Dead Online will come with exciting PlayStation 4 benefits right from launch," a message from Sony confirms.

"In Red Dead Redemption 2, PS4 players will be able to customise Arthur Morgan with the Grizzlies Outlaw Outfit.

"Come November with the launch of Red Dead Online, PS4 players will get 30 days early access to the versatile Arabian horse featuring a custom Alligator skin saddle, and the High Roller double-action revolver.

"Make sure that you have an active PS Plus subscription so that you can access Red Dead Online and check out these awesome items!"

The good news for Xbox players is that it doesn't sound like particularly exciting stuff, much of it you could do without.

t's unlikely that this news will put players off joining Red Dead Online, which looks set to be a massive growth area for Rockstar Games.

Analysts predict that RDR2 can even replicate some of the success of GTA 5, which continues to have high sales driven by the multiplayer mode included.

"We continue to favour Red Dead for upside this holiday, while our longer-term thesis is unchanged: Take-Two has the biggest runway to benefit from digital shift, [microtransactions] shift, margin expansion and multiple expansion from streaming content deals," analyst Justin Post writes.

"We are above guidance and have modelled for 18 [million] units, but given ["Grand Theft Auto 5"] success, eight years of development and consumers' desire for original content, we see upside potential."

That upside potential will rely on RDR2's online experience mimicking the success of GTA Online.

And it doesn't sound like this new 30-day deal will prove to be something that could dampen sales of the game on the Xbox One.
