I'm looking to start my project on building a gaming pc. I really don't know where to start. I am not a fan of buying a pre-built. I want to be able to build my own pc so I can learn to understand how it works and etc. But I have heard a lot of things about Intel processors. How does Ryzen compare? Also if you want to give some pointers on what is good or not, that would be great! |

RCPD wrote What is the difference between i5 or i7 Depends which i5 and i7 you're talking about. RCPD wrote Whats better Intel or Ryzen? Depends on what exactly you're doing with the system. |

Generally, price for performance, you are better off with Ryzen.
If you want the best performance, regardless of budget, Intel is usually a winner. Do bare in mind this is a big generalisation and obviously specific games/applications will have different results. |

Are you planning on just gaming with your PC, RCPD?
Answer these questions and it will be easier to recommend parts for you: What is your budget and currency? (Pound sign does not work normally, use GBP abbreviation) Do you need a monitor? Do you need a keyboard? Do you need a mouse? Do you need an operating system? What will you use the PC for? |

RCPD wrote Im not a techy guy but the i5 8600k I think and i7 8700k You lose some L3 cache and Hyperthreading. The cache isn't really important because it's less beneficial without Hyperthreading anyway, so Hyperthreading is the main difference. The 8600k also has piss poor stock clock speeds for some reason, but it shouldn't be too hard to hit 5GHz with an 8600k. 8600k really doesn't make sense now IMO, you can get a 9600k for the same price. I'd still go Ryzen 5 over an i5-9600k though since you're only really going to notice a benefit with the 9600k if you're only using your system to play games at 1080p 144Hz. Intel vs Ryzen or i5 vs R5 or i7 vs R7 depends entirely on your budget and what exactly you'll be using your system for. There's never really going to be one definitive answer. |
