The only thing which I can imagine your friend is trying to say is that you need to spoof your mac address onto another device and whilst Virgin Media do not allow you to connect your own modem to their network, there's nothing stopping you from putting the super hub into modem mode and getting a router to do the rest of the work. |

If you're not using DIAL-UP aka a wired connection you will not obtain all of your download/upload speed. If your router is to far from your setup and you can't run a ethernet all the way I suggest buying something like the TP-Link AV1000 Powerline Ethernet Adapter - Gigabit Port. (linked below)
