I think the number you're talking about is the "miles to E", go fill up and see if the number changes. When you reset the MPG one it takes a while to recalculate. It might be in your settings to reset when the car is turned off. When you are in stop and go your fuel economy is shot. It takes a lot of miles to make that accurate to your driving style.
