Hi guys,
As stated above - is it worth it? I currently have a RX 580 Phantom 8GB. I'm also running Ryzen 5 2600 so I would be able to upgrade without any bottlenecking. It's not long out though - is it best to wait? |

The RX 5700 XT is quite a significant upgrade compared to your 580 (roughly around double the performance).
If you are looking to upgrade your GPU, the closest comparison near the price is an RTX 2070 (the RTX being a bit more expensive) and then the performance for that price difference is negligible. Overall, I would recommend getting it. |

Depends on a lot of things really.
It depends where you are, and how much an RX 5700(XT) or RTX 2070(Super) will set you back. The RX 5700 should just about match an RTX 2070, with the 5700XT coming somewhere in between a 2070 and 2070 Super, so as long as pricing is logical, then yeah the 5700(XT) is a pretty solid card IMO. That said, the AIB 5700(XT)'s have been really over-priced in some places, or just not widely available, which kind of makes them a bad purchase since their value can now fall more in line with the RTX cards, but you're losing features. Honestly, the RTX 2070, 2070 Super, and RX 5700(XT) are all pretty solid cards, but pricing and availability has been iffy so you just have to keep an eye out and buy whatever takes your fancy when it pops up in stock. As for whether you should upgrade from an RX 580, that also depends. We can't really say since we don't know what monitor(s) you're using, nor do we know the rest of your specs, or even what you're using your system for exactly. Is an RX 5700XT a better GPU than an RX 580? Absolutely. Will it matter to you? Not a clue. Oh, and if you do buy an RX 5700(XT), absolutely 100% don't bother buying a reference cooler unless you're going to ditch it and do a custom loop. |

I use my PC for gaming 90% of the time, or simple web browsing or watching twitch. I play mainly AAA games and will be going full send on the new Call of Duty for example. If there's any other info you'd need then let me know. Pricing isnt really an issue. Seen them for around £400 atm. Stock seems OK as of writing. |

Okay, so UK, stock has been pretty bad here but I think that's because everyone is buying the AIB 5700(XT)'s immediately when they're available. There is plenty of stock of the reference cards, and at 'reasonable' prices, but it's because the coolers suck hard.
This XFX card is actually a nice price IMO; amazon.co.uk/dp/B07VXNDGK5/?tag=pcp0f-21 but any more than that and it's starting to get a bit unreasonable for pricing IMO, since a 2070 Super is a faster card, with more features and you can find a decent one for about £500. All the Sapphire, MSI, and Gigabyte 5700XT's I've been seeing recently have been around £450, but that might just be because availability isn't great currently. At that price though, definite avoid IMO, 2070 Super is absolutely worth the 50 quid extra at that point. Also worth keeping an eye on RTX 2070's(non Super), seen some of those going for around £400 but once they're gone, they're gone so stock is definitely not great for them, just gotta get lucky and find a banging deal on one really. This one's not bad; ebuyer.com/869334-msi-geforce-rtx...eid=206719 As for whether it's worth it, at 1080p144Hz, yeah probably. You will notice a decent improvement from your RX 580 in many situations so if you feel like your RX 580 is starting to hold you back a bit, a GPU upgrade wouldn't be a bad idea. If you were at like 1080p60Hz, then I probably wouldn't bother. |

Thank you. I'll keep an eye out!
I was looking here: scan.co.uk/products/msi-radeon-rx...05mhz-boos As my monitor has free sync- am I not more inclined to stay AMD or am I being an idiot? The 2070's do look super nice though. Either way I may need a new PSU as mines is only 500W and these cards recommend a min 600/650W. |

LGW wrote I was looking here: scan.co.uk/products/msi-radeon-rx...05mhz-boos That's the reference cooler. The reference cooler is so trash, it's just not worth buying unless you're going to throw the cooler away and put the GPU in a custom loop. LGW wrote As my monitor has free sync- am I not more inclined to stay AMD or am I being an idiot? Nah, doesn't matter. NVidia GPU's support Freesync, so you'll be able to use Freesync whether you get an RX 5700(XT) or RTX 2070 (Super). LGW wrote The 2070's do look super nice though. Either way I may need a new PSU as mines is only 500W and these cards recommend a min 600/650W. The 5700XT performs in between a 2070 and 2070 Super so if you can get a good 5700XT for less than an RTX 2070, it is a decent deal. That said, you're losing a feature with the AMD cards- RTX. Doesn't matter that much if you don't care about RTX, but it's still an extra feature you get with the NVidia options so worth keeping in mind IMO. As for PSU, 500W is perfectly sufficient, but that Aerocool unit is sub par quality. You'll be fine with it, though I would probably be looking at a PSU upgrade in the not too distant future, if you don't do PSU upgrade at the same time as GPU. |

Thanks so much for your help. I think I may go for the 2070 you linked from eBuyer. I'll just jump to a 600W to cover all bases from the same site.
Appreciate it man! |

ebuyer.com/900779-msi-geforce-rtx...-ventus-oc Or is this overpriced? Would need a 650W also. |

So yeah, that MSI RTX 2070 for £430 seems like the best deal on those now. I did see some 2070s going for around 400 quid not long ago, but they're out of production now so once stock is gone, it's gone and those deals obviously went fast lol.
The XFX 5700XT I linked above for £410 would be a decent shout too, up to you whether you'd rather the 5700XT's slightly better performance in some situations, or spend the extra 20 quid to lose a little performance and get RTX support. As for the RTX 2070 Super, that MSI Ventus model is fine. £500-525 is the going rate for 2070 Super's. I don't personally like the Ventus cooler, bit ugly IMO, so I'd maybe look at a Gigabyte one, or maybe this Zotac one; scan.co.uk/products/zotac-geforce...m=referral However, stock of the 2070 Supers is a little iffy right now as well, though not quite as bad as AIB 5700(XT)'s. Plenty of these in stock at a great price; overclockers.co.uk/kfa2-geforce-r...a5-kf.html Bit of an ugly cooler again IMO, but good deal nonetheless. For PSU, like I said, 500W is perfectly sufficient regardless which of the 4 GPU's you decide on. It's the quality of your current unit that is the issue, not the wattage. So just make sure to get a good quality PSU whenever you do upgrade that, whether it's now or later. |
