I live in commienecticut. Building, customizing, and shooting guns is one of my favorite hobbies. I own multiple handguns and rifles (bolt action & semi), used for hunting, self defense, and sport. I am only allowed to own my AR's in this state because I am in the military, which is a stupid infringement. The wording is pretty clear: "...the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." |

I like guns, they are fun.
The United States definitely has a problem stemming from guns in one way or another though. |

I still believe my handgun is a necessity. I live in North Texas in the DFW area and make trips between Fort Worth and Dallas and even in the two cities, Well there are always the nice parts and bad parts and the line in between. you never know what you're going to come across, rather who you're going to come across. We need to protect ourselves now more than ever.
Whether its the drug addicts living in the streets, gang members, dealers, whatever the case. There is always someone out there that will hurt you and as sad as it is to say a knife, mace, or even a taser can only go so far. If you need to eliminate a threat, you need the means to eliminate the threat. |

I don't see anything wrong with owning a gun for home/self defense, hunting, and just to collect. Living in NY makes it quite hard for me to legally obtain certain guns but I mainly own the ones that I do for hunting. |

C4s wrote Piggy backing off of this because I always see people mention that a knife should be used over a gun for self defense and I'm glad you're one of the few that actually know that's a straight up stupid idea. 1) Knife fights are the very last thing anyone wants to do, it's not just stab and run away. You are close quarters with someone and you both have a blade, literally last case scenario than even a gun fight. 2) Without proper training you have virtually no chance against an attacker and even with proper training, you're better off living from getting struck by a car going 40 MPH/64KM. Knife fights aren't meant for the defensive, they're straight offensive. I'm not talking about a sword or anything like that, little 2-8 inch blades are strictly meant for offensive purposes and defensive is already gambling with your life. 3) Knife fights are a straight up mental battle and most everyone falls to their basic nature of thought. That shit alone is crippling mentally. 4) Knife fights are a goddamn bloody mess. This is a quote that has been jumping around recently and I think it's truer than ever. "The loser of a knife fight dies in the street, the winner of a knife fight dies in a hospital." 5) This guy in the spoiler puts all my points into perspective because it's true I will always be behind and respect a person who actually acknowledges that a knife, mace and a taser only go so far. A bright ass LED flashlight that is at least 1200 lumens and has a strode feature, is a better defensive option than a knife, mace and in most cases a taser. A gun is an absolute necessity for self defense as most places you need to first show that you can operate the gun before even buying/getting your license for it and guns are much more fool proof than using a taser or mace -- unless you're somebody who goes out and buys a pistol that is too big and too strong for you, simply because you don't want to look weak that you can only handle a .40 S&W, so you went and bought a .44 Mag that you can't even control to look "tough." Those are the people that are going to screw up a self defensive position but thank god those people aren't very common in actual ownership. Other than that, it's a very simple defensive option that in most cases you won't even have to fire, the thought of seeing or hearing a gun being cocked/racked is enough for most attackers to back off. |
