Harmonaz wrote Checked my searches this morning and my £185 TUF was gone. Is still on a few other sites for the same price, but delivery charges on top. Fortunately found it for £182 from same place that I got the 3700x. Unfortunately they didn't have a decently priced 120mm fan so I've missed out on that...

Gone ahead and ordered as the stock went from 2 to 1 as I was typing this. Gonna be so gutted if it suddenly drops even more lol

Fair enough lol. Yeah, the X570 TUF is gonna get more stock for sure, and it'll probably stay around 180/185. I really was hoping to see some decent deals today and/or over the weekend, but still looks pretty poor in terms of sales Seen some motherboard deals, but it was just older Intel sockets so vendors clearly trying to get rid of old stock for "deal" prices :/

As for the fan, yeah, did not notice Amazon is making you buy 3 at a time lol, that's stupid. Here's the same fan, just without PWM control;
amazon.co.uk/dp/B00ECWKD6I?tag=pc...i&th=1
you don't need to buy 3, and it's less than a tenner.

21 wrote As for the fan...
Thanks for that link - nothing else to get on Amazon so I'll still have to pay shipping for that. With regards to the original PWM version you recommended:

1) I can get one for a tenner including shipping. Use as a rear exhaust and use two stock as intake on the front.
2) Get three of those and use 2 front and 1 rear. No stock.
3) Is 2 front, 1 rear and 1 top a bad setup? If not, I can consider two of these at the rear and top and use two stock at the front. Or the 3 from point 2) above and add one stock in the front?

Option 1) is most likely for me, but overthinking/boredom while I wait for the parts may convince me to buy more stuff to spice up the build even more...

I was considering the RGB fan you linked since it wouldn't hurt to make thing look a bit nice as it'll be sitting in plain view, but just realised the Wraith Prism has RGB so I don't wanna spend anymore in that area.

Gonna check some of the videos linked in the Sticky at the top of the forum to get some tips on building. The wait is killing me...

Option 1 or 2. Adding more fans isn't necessarily bad, but 2 in the front as intake and 1 in the rear as exhaust is a pretty standard set-up and will have sufficient airflow for your system. If you upgrade all fans to the Pure Wings 2, you'll be lowering noise so I definitely wouldn't add one of the stock fans alongside 3 x Pure Wings 2's.

Yeah, stock cooler with the 3700x is RGB. You'd also be better just adding LED strips than LED fans IMO, but the LED fans I linked are a decent option for the price if you like 'em.

When it comes to the Ryzen 3K line up anything prior to a 570 motherboard will require an update. Not every PSU is "universal" to any motherboard. Depending on what you're looking at it may or may not have enough SATA, EPS, etc. ports to allow for more power use. Hence the second error claiming you won't have the correct amount of ports to drive the CPU. It's more or less saying, "Hey any overclocking or intense work loads you're doing, this might not be right for you." Then towards the M.2 and SATA connections, using an M.2 takes over a SATA connection outright. PCI-e ports are mostly used for wireless adapters and things like video capture cards, some cases even storage modules or sound cards. Not really a thing to worry about, just a reminder if you have 2 M.2's populated you'll have 6 ports for SATA on a motherboard but only 4 will be operational.

I can argue all day long with spending a little more for performance. On note though when it comes to memory with Ryzen the "standard" does fall often to 3600Mhz. Doesn't mean you can't do just fine with 3000 or 3200. Performance differences are pretty minimal when it comes to RAM though, especially once you've hit 3200Mhz everything after is just a matter of diminishing returns. Plenty to say otherwise there, but it doesn't make much difference.

Since you're actually trying to use this for work loads, answer me this.. How big are the files you're working with? Because you could very much so go with say a 500GB or 1TB SSD and have even more storage in a HDD. One for fast and ease, another for backup and storage. I would also recommend an external SSD or HDD for further backup so you're not losing anything you're working on. With that in mind doesn't Adobe go entirely based on subscription now? I doubt they'd halt a transfer of software so long as you're using the same login information.

If all your workloads are consisting of is 1080p@30fps having a 250 or 500 GB SSD would be perfect. Those files won't get large until you really drag out a video.

Honestly the system you have built is pretty hard overkill, but the whole point to video production is reduce time in render and publishing. The only thing I'd put my two cents in for is the fact you're making one rookie mistake and that's storage. If this is really your career path, you need offsets for that big time.

What I'd recommend:
PC Part Picker List

Without a doubt for someone recording and working with 1080p footage, this is overkill. To a point where I wouldn't give it much consideration because at this point you're just looking at reduction in time to production. Again though, if that's something you care for, then yes this can aim to that. I would without a doubt though recommend a 2700 or 2700X and a different motherboard.

Hi thanks for your post. I was aware that I was going overboard as soon as I went for the 3700x. From what I've seen on youtube vids, a 3600 or 2700 would do fine even for editing 4k, but as you said - I really want to speed up the final render. The 3700x was £117 more so I went for that knowing that it wasn't exactly the best price to performance ratio, but it would still speed up the rendering. If the 3900x went nearer the £400 mark I would have gone for that instead!

I'm not too sure myself why I downgraded the 3600 RAM to 3200 for just a £20 saving, while I'm sat here thinking of more ways to waste money... I've received it already so don't want to cry over that anymore.

I went for the ASUS TUF X570 so populating both m2 slots shouldn't disable any other ports/lanes right? The second m2 wasn't out of necessity - I'm just really hyped by the technology, specially after struggling with nothing but HDDs for the past decade. The setup was going to be 1TB m2 and 2TB external HDD - only difference now is I have a second m2 so may as well put that to use. Maybe use the first m2 for source files and the second for rendered files eventually moving them off to the HDD. Is that good? BTW - I'll most likely move over two old 250GB SATA drives from my old machine to this one as opposed to throwing them away. The 1TB IDE in that PC can't be connected to the new build can it? Thats prolly going in the bin...

My files are 90% 1080p and the rest are 4k. File sizes - 80% < 1 GB, 15% ~ 1GB and the rest over a gig. There's a good chance I'll end up with more 4k footage since phones are capturing 4k video all over the place now.

The machine is not for work. Purely personal. Don't know if I'll ever put this much thought and effort into a PC again, so I wanted to feel like I got something solid that will last forever ages. The Pro Carbon build with a 2700x would have saved me a lot of money, but I had some spare cash so didn't wanna hold back on anything I may have regretted later...

I checked a few kdenlive tutorials and it might be good enough for my needs. Gonna wait to try it obviously, but for now I think I can get away with a free tool.

He was considering the 2700x but decided on the 3700x since it's ~20% faster than the 2700x in Premiere Pro and better value than the 3700x. Nothing wrong with the 3700x at all, it's a great CPU and a perfectly good choice.

Don't worry about it OP, 3200MHz is already more than adequate. I run ny RAM @ 2933MHz on an X370 mobo with my R7 1700x and that's already a significant boost over 2133/2400MHz.
3200MHz was pretty tough to achieve with 1st gen Ryzen but was the sweet spot. I'd say the "standard" is 2933/3200MHz since that's what most people will be running with Ryzen.
Any more than 3600MHz with 3rd gen and you might actually lose performance due to the way the infinity fabric works, so 3600MHz is the maximum speed I'd recommend. 2933MHz minimum with Ryzen IMO.

Harmonaz wrote I went for the ASUS TUF X570 so populating both m2 slots shouldn't disable any other ports/lanes right?

Nah, you're good to go with the X570 TUF. Won't disable any PCIe lanes or SATA ports.

Harmonaz wrote The 1TB IDE in that PC can't be connected to the new build can it? Thats prolly going in the bin...

Yeah, you're not going to be re-using that lol. The 2 x SSD's, your 2 x 250GB SATA HDD's and your 2TB external HDD should be plenty. Better to keep finished edits and any media you're not working with on slower drives, so the HDD's or 660p. Keep the Sabrent Rocket for files you're working on/rendering and your OS, programs, etc.

Scratched wrote you're making one rookie mistake and that's storage. If this is really your career path, you need offsets for that big time.

He's got 2TB worth of NVMe and a 2TB external HDD, he's sorted. This isn't his "career path", he's using it for home videos and media, 4TB is absolutely more than enough.

Scratched wrote What I'd recommend:

a different motherboard.

Why? This MSI MPG motherboard is much poorer quality than the X570 TUF?

Good thing I checked - looks like I need a dp to hdmi cable. Don't have anything that handles displayport, and the Zotak has 1 hdmi and 3 dp. I'm sure one of the other variants would have had what I needed. Fortunately not an expensive mistake. In other news, GamersNexus put the 1660 Super as the best mid range card.

Found this for £6. Quick search elsewhere didn't reveal anything better, at least price wise. Any suggestions? I don't have any shops nearby where I could grab one - probably a good thing since they usually charge a ton for these fancy cables.
