Hello everyone,
Recently I built a gaming rig and I've been enjoying the HDR feature a lot. The PC and monitor would use their algorithms to enhance games into "HDR" even if they were technically not HDR compatible (such as Witcher 3, Hunt Showdown, etc.) However, today it stopped doing so! Does anybody have suggestions as to how this can be fixed? Now the PC still runs HDR mode perfectly when in windows or HDR compatible games. But HDR is automatically turned off when in not HDR supported games. What I do is launch the game I want to play (In this instance Witcher 3) with HDR mode enabled. But as soon as I load the game and check the settings on my display, it says that HDR mode is off, and the colors are visibly less bright. I noticed it first when I alt+tabbed out of the game, and when I alt+tabbed back it was no longer in HDR but SDR. When I go back to windows its back in HDR mode, and when I go back to the game its back in SDR mode. Occasionally if I alt+tab back and forth enough the game will go back to HDR. But it takes A LOT of tabbing now. I haven't the slightest notion of what might cause this. The only things that have changed since HDR worked perfectly in all games is I several days ago turned HDR mode off in the windows HD color settings because I was working on Word and the white was too bright. Also today when I came back from being gone for several hours I couldn't get my display to turn on, so I had to unplug it and plug it back into the outlet. After which it turned back on. I did of course try to restart the PC several times. I double checked that HDR mode is turned on in Windows HD Color Settings. I have toggled on both the "Play HDR Games and Apps" feature and the "Stream HDR Video" feature. My SDR content appearance is at 49 (I tried moving it around to see if it affects the PCs/Monitors ability to display HDR, it didn't have any affect). I also made sure I'm up to date on everything. There was a small update that I installed for windows which had no effect. Also my GPU is up to date, double checked with Nvidia GeForce experience. My specs are as follows: CPU: Intel i9 9900K GPU: Geforce RTX 2080 TI Monitor: Asus PG27UQ If anyone can give me tips I would I appreciate them greatly! Thank you in advance. |

I happened upon this post
[Minimum post requirement for links] Now resizing as he mentioned did not help. But the HDR stays on if I launch the game in borderless windowed mode. So I can still enjoy my HDR at full resolution. I would still like to know however, what is causing this since it was working perfectly on all content in full screen mode just a few days ago. |
