Posting this in hopes of helping other noobs w/ their first build......
Spent the last few days searching posts on the site as well as surfing the online community knowledge base on first time PC builds. Here's what's helped and what I've learned: 1. Research, research, research. I expect to have about 40 hour of learning before I even think about ordering components and starting my build. Learning about what each component of the build is, and what it does was first. Then working on the mechanics of a typical build, order of assembly, and getting in all in the case and connected properly. 2. First intimidation was getting compatible components that would all work together AND fit in the case. That's not so much a thing anymore since I've learned about the CPU mounting configuration standards. THAT made life a lot easier right there. And cases; again, differing types and styles and bells and whistles. Quality cases seems to make life easier for mounting hardware and routing cables. 3. Learned a LOT about CPU cooling, liquid vs. air. Several good detailed video studies out there. Learned a lot about the pros and cons of each. For the rookie build, I'm going w/ a HSF. Save the cool lighted liquid deal for the next build. Appreciate this board, appreciate the mods esp. 21, appreciate the members. dray |
