In all the excitement of building a new PC I may have overlooked a few key aspects, such as testing components i'd purchased second hand, turns out the MOBO is DOA https://www.thetechgame.com/images/chat/smiles/pepehands.png

The build was complete and ready to power on but it just wouldn't boot, I checked every connection possible with no luck, realised it was either a dud MOBO or the PSU (which is brand new) so to rule out the PSU being at fault I connected it to my old build through its MOBO and it powered on instantly. Time to throw more money at this thing!

DOA or not updated to support the CPU? You can usually get a loaner from AMD in that case just to update. Unless they stopped that program.

Hadn't considered that, I could use my Ryzen 5 with it and see if it will boot enough to perform an update, thanks man i'll give that a shot

Tried with another CPU and it still wouldnt boot, replaced the CMOS battery, then attempted to flash the BIOS and the board started smoking, if she was salvagable before she's definitely not now https://www.thetechgame.com/images/chat/smiles/yepp.png

The build is complete!

After months of buying and waiting for parts, dealing with small issues along the way and setting a motherboard on fire https://www.thetechgame.com/images/chat/smiles/monkas.png the RTX 3080 SUPRIM x build is finally done! This is my first real high end build and it's been a huge learning experience but i'm happy with the overall product. To anyone on here on the fence about taking the plunge into building their own PC just do it, the amount of tools/videos online and people who can help is incredible and makes the process somuch more enjoyable

Without further ado, here it is in all its beauty

After setting my B550 on fire I decided to just send it and purchased a used MSI MAG X570S TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI Motherboard, this time I tested it before getting too excited and thankfully it worked perfectly!

Final parts list: PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 3.7 GHz 12-Core Processor (£399.99 @ Amazon UK)
CPU Cooler: Corsair iCUE H150i ELITE CAPELLIX 75 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler (£115 @ eBay )
Motherboard: MSI MAG X570S TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI ATX AM4 Motherboard (£175 @ CCL)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro SL 32 GB (4 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600 CL18 Memory (£148.47 @ Amazon UK)
Storage: Crucial P2 250 GB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive (£20 @ eBay)
Storage: Crucial P2 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive (£67.98 @ Amazon UK)
Video Card: MSI GeForce RTX 3080 RTX 3080 SUPRIM X 10G GeForce RTX 3080 10GB 10 GB Video Card (89p @ Competiton)
Case: Corsair 4000D ATX Mid Tower Case (£95.98 @ Novatech)
Power Supply: Corsair RM1000x (2021) 1000 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply (£176.88 @ CCL Computers)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Home OEM - DVD 64-bit
Case Fan: Corsair iCUE SP120 RGB ELITE 47.7 CFM 120 mm Fans 3-Pack (£49.99 @ AWD-IT)

Total: roughly £1500

Huge thank you to the boys in the SB and 16 for their help

Finally! It's been quite a while since I've seen a user request help and then build it within these forums. Glad it all worked out OK and it looks nice!

Hopefully this is the first of many for you. PC building is a fun hobby albeit expensive.

I'm building a new PC and thought I'd share the timeline with you guys!

So I recently won an insane MSI 3080 Surpim X GPU in a competition online for less than a dollar https://www.thetechgame.com/images/chat/smiles/kekleo.png

As amazing as this is, it means I need to upgrade/start a completely new build to make this monster of a card worth having, whilst still being on somewhat of a budget. So throughout the build i'll be using a mixture of new components, heavily vetted eBay finds and ones scavenged from my current setup to eventually get to the end product

I'll try to explain my thought process behind each iteration of the build and if you guys have any advice along the way please feel free to tell me!

Into the rabbit hole I go!

Stay tuned for updates!

Just over a year since completing this build and I can believe how outdated it is already, technology moves so fast!

Love the specs! I've never had the courage to try build my own, too worried that I might break something
