Hey there, I was just curious, what tips would you guys have for someone like me. I have lived with my mom for much too long now. I am back at home again, and I am 25 years old. I feel like a complete failure. There are a lot of reasons why I have been here for so long, that I won't go into at this time, but I am doing everything I can to save up enough money to move out. I was just curious, what financial advice might some of you guys have for me. I make about $400 a week right now, since I can only work one job at the moment. I pay $309 per month on my auto loan, and another $280 a month for full coverage on the car. A few other smaller payments and my total bills per month come out to a little over $800. So, I was curious of a few thing

1) How much money, should I have, before I move to an apartment
2) What kinds of things should I look for besides utilities and distance from places I need to go, like stores and work
3) Any advice on saving money/making more money in my day to day life

PS, please dont be rude when it comes to my story, there are a lot of things that people cannot change about their lives, nor do you need to cast judgement on those you don't know about. Thanks.

Don't ever feel like a failure. The fact you actually got to move out says something. I'm your last bet to take advice from as, I've never moved rather been "throw away" lol. One little advice for saving though, avoid pretty much spending unless you need to (no fast foods, no "snacks", or look at an item you like and think oooh that's cheap" - it'll stil be there when you get an apartment. Set out a plan food wise here's what I did:

Morning: 2/3 Slice of toast - cheap whole grain bread

Lunch: Ham sandwhich (mayo and ham or cheese and onion but it makes it more)

As for dinner that's my main thing I focus on I usually just get frozen stuff.

I know it's not the best quality of living but it's not easy saving.

I am also aware you probably have been told all this stuff before. Just saying it in case you didn't know lol

Honestly the best way to grow a deposit or savings is to just spend within your means. Buy ingredients to cook your own meals. Takeaways are so expensive and such a waste for so many people. Been there and made that mistake during the pandemic. What I will say is the rental market is absolutely fkd right now so don't feel bad about it.

The only luxury I will allow myself for the rest of this year is a holiday to Costa Del Sol in October.

I've managed to save enough for a 15% deposit but waiting to see how the market is going to play out and continue to save.

Also forgot to mention that I moved out when I was was 17.

We can probably relate in a few different ways, I grew up a lot different from most of my family. I was on the streets alone for months on end without anyone to rely on, even making it to school from the homeless shelter sometimes, while everyone else was at home. Really dark times, but it sure did help me grow up fast. But didn't always make good choices obviously. Anyways, yeah you two are completely right. The only food I buy these days are to help me build muscle and keep in better shape. Thats because of my diabetes. I need to get stronger, so along with the gym those 2 I have to spend a little money on, just because it will actually affect how long I truly live. But other then that, I do NOT go out, what so ever. I don't spend money to enjoy myself, which can be a fault for my mental health sometimes, but I only do what I need to do at the end of the day. Also helps me stay out of trouble.
