SiDev wrote Don't kick yourself. I am coming around on my mid 20s as well but I went to school and got a bachelors in computer science. Now, I am selling cars. But part of that is cause I have 2 car dealerships in my family. There is really good money in the car business and you don't need hardly any education if any at all to be successful. Just takes drive and hard work. I wonder every day if I would be better off in my own field for what I studied though.

I have always wanted to learn about cars but nobody has ever taken time out to show me much about them. I try and look online but if my car needs a fix, i dont even try its straight to the sop.

Frog wrote Literature degree, no regrets. It's opened up some pretty interesting doors for me.
I'd love to learn a trade as well though, but the older I get the less likely somebody would take me on.

Edit: I don't know how I forgot to mention this but I'm somehow a professor of literature in China at this moment in time. So I suppose I am in school... I didn't even apply for this job. They only told me I'd be doing it once I arrived!

that is quite interesting seriously!

Qualifications mean nothing in life, yeah they help achieve what you maybe after faster, however if you really apply yourself to something in life you can achieve it no matter what some grades say on a piece of paper. I have done just that with rubbish grades and I'm now a manager.

Same as learning programming. Yeah I have loads more to learn on it but I have never done a single class or course. I just spent hours upon hours over the years learning different things.

My motto is if you want something go for it don't worry about what a piece of paper says because if you are really passionate about it you will do everything in you're will to learn the ins and outs and this sometimes makes you know more than someone that has a degree as you have a great interest in it so you want to know the ins and outs of how it works or how you do that certain thing

I'm the same way man. I was always the family IT/tech guy. My brother was always the mechanic and he still is. I'm rly good at talking to people so I sell the cars and my brother fixes the cars. Makes a pretty good program we got going lol

SubFlexTaylor wrote Just curious to see, are you in school or have you ever gone to school? After high school, I really wasn't taking life as serious as I am now that I am halfway through my 20s, and I really hate myself for it since it feels more impossible every passing day to see myself going back and getting a degree and actually making enough money to be a little more comfortable.

If you havent gone to school, why? If you have, why and what did you study? Or even plan to study if you do go back to school?

Wagwan bro.

In Australia there's something called a graduate certificate. Essentially, if you get three years of experience in a relevant industry then you can do a nine month course part time to get something just above a bachelors with less time exerted. It's a postgraduate qualification without needing to do undergrad. You can bridge it into your masters degree which makes everything two years overall. All part time on a 20 hour per week load which means it can be balanced with employment.

You should first investigate if something similar is possible in the states, or consider moving if your life situation and the economics permits it.

There's smarter ways that exist to get qualified then spending years doing undergrad, especially as a mature aged student.
