Moi https://www.thetechgame.com/images/chat/smiles/cool008.gif

I've always wanted to install an open party operating system on my phone.
I've just bought a new second-hand phone in China, and now seems to perfect opportunity to do so.
The intrusion is next level.

Has anybody any experience doing this before?
If so, do you have any OS recommendations or tips?

Frog! Stumbled upon this post way beyond the timeframe during which you were probably expecting a reply.

I'm writing this with the assumption that you already figured this out/decided to forget about it--but maybe this reply will help a future reader, idk.

The first thing you'd need to do is figure out how to root the exact model of your device. The XDA Forums are far and away the best place to research/ask about any of this stuff. The process for some devices is easier than others, but both a computer and intermediate technical knowledge are required--no question about that.

Once you've got your bearings and everything's prepped on your device itself...
- LineageOS: probably the "critics' choice" for best open-source Android-based OS, without compromising the fluid usability that Android ~should~ be known for
- GrapheneOS: some would say it's Graphene or bust; prioritizes security/privacy over everything, whereas LineageOS is more of a 'raw' Android ROM
- CalyxOS: the staunchly anti-Google choice (perhaps to a fault?); uses MicroG as an alternative to Google Play Services, which is far more of a hassle than what's offered by other OS's like Graphene

If you're putting a raygun to my head and asking me to choose? I'd prob go Graphene. My word/opinion means nothing, though. Things like this are ~so~ incredibly dependent upon the device in question, and the user in charge of it all.

Like I said, Frog--I can't imagine this is still a question you're looking for in-depth answers to, especially after all this time. And even if it was, I don't know if my reply would be of any help. Just posting this in case someone happens upon this thread down the road.
